When European users migrate to OKX, what they can actually bring over is less than you might think. The assets themselves (spot tokens) can be withdrawn and transferred, but positions basically cannot be moved. Futures, margin, and staking positions cannot be directly migrated across platforms. You can only close them and rebuild them on the new platform. More importantly, OKX Europe and OKX Global have structural differences in tradable products. Even if you are already in Europe, the product set you can use is different from what users in the US or Asia see.

First, Clarify Which "OKX" You Are Moving To
If you live in the European Economic Area (EEA), under MiCA regulations, you access OKX Europe Limited (a Malta-based entity), not the global version of OKX. The two share the same brand and part of the liquidity, but the product sets are different.
Spot trading on OKX Europe only supports trading pairs quoted in EUR or USDC. USDT pairs are not supported. This means your USDT balance cannot be used directly for spot trading on the European version. You need to convert it to EUR or USDC first. This is the first practical issue you need to handle after migration.
For derivatives, the European version offers X-Perps (perpetual-style futures regulated under MiFID), not the global version's perpetual swaps (SWAP). X-Perps are quoted in USD and support up to 10x leverage for retail users, while some products on the global version can reach higher leverage. X-Perps have about 85-95 active instruments, but there are no coin-margined (inverse) contracts.
Assets Can Be Withdrawn and Transferred, Positions Cannot
The migration path for spot assets is standard on-chain withdrawal: withdraw from your original platform to the corresponding deposit address on OKX Europe, confirm that the network and contract address match, and wait for on-chain confirmation. You need to pay attention to Europe's Travel Rule (funds transfer regulation): when you deposit to or withdraw from OKX Europe, the platform needs to collect and verify the counterparty's name and wallet address information. Transfers that cannot provide this information may be delayed or rejected.
Futures, margin, and staking positions cannot be transferred across platforms. These positions are tied to the original platform's account system and margin mechanism. Migration means you can only close the position, withdraw the funds, and reopen it on OKX. Closing a position may involve fees and slippage, and the price and funding rate when you reopen may also be different. If your position is large, you should estimate the cost of this process in advance.
OKX sub-account fund transfer rules also apply here: sub-accounts cannot withdraw funds. Withdrawals can only be made through the main account. If you hold assets in a sub-account on your original platform, you need to first confirm which account level your funds are in.
Preparation Steps Before Migration
Download your history records. OKX officially states clearly: after updating your country/region of residence, account statements, trade history, and funding history will no longer be downloadable. If you need to keep tax or trading records from the original platform, you must complete the download before starting the migration process.
Confirm whether your current platform is still serving you. The MiCA transition period ended on July 1, 2026. If your original platform does not have a MiCA license, or has a license but serves you through a global entity, your account may already be restricted or about to be taken offline. In this case, migration is not a "choice" but a required action.
Avoid making new trades during migration. OKX's migration guide clearly recommends: during the residence update process, do not make new deposits or new trades. These actions may create positions or assets that require additional cleanup, causing delays in the migration process.
An Easily Overlooked Boundary
The spot order book on OKX Europe is shared with the global version. EUR/USDC trading pairs show the same depth and price on both. However, account and order routing must go through the European entity (eea.okx.com). You cannot use the global version domain to operate a European account. If you trade via API, you need to update the API domain.
Spot assets can be transferred, positions need to be rebuilt, USDT needs to be converted, and history records need to be downloaded in advance. These four things determine the actual workload of your migration.
