OKX Europe Unified Order Book: How Are EUR and EURC Settled?

EUR and EURC in the OKX Europe unified order book have a shared liquidity, separate settlement relationship. The price and depth you see in the same order book are the same for EUR and EURC. But whether you end up with euros or EURC after a trade depends on which settlement asset you chose when placing the order. The two can be converted at 1:1, but this conversion is not automatic and does not change the way your trade is priced.

What the unified order book actually merges

OKX put the previously separate euro spot market and EURC spot market into the same order book. This means buy and sell orders for EUR pairs and EURC pairs are no longer independent, and liquidity flows into a single pool. The official reason is to reduce slippage, tighten spreads, and let users who manage assets in euros avoid going through dollar pairs to complete trades.

But "unified" does not mean "identical." EUR is fiat euro. EURC is a euro stablecoin issued by Circle, backed by euro reserves and designed to be redeemable for euros at 1:1. Under the OKX Europe framework, the two are treated as two settlement assets within the same order book, not merged into the same thing.

What actually happens when you place an order

Open spot trading in the OKX app or on the web, find a EUR trading pair such as BTC/EUR, and you will see a "Trade with" option at the top of the trading interface. It lets you choose EUR or EURC. Whichever you choose is the asset you receive when the trade settles.

For example, if you buy BTC in the BTC/EUR order book and "Trade with" is set to EUR, you pay with euros in your account and the BTC purchase is settled from a euro-denominated perspective. If you choose EURC, you pay with EURC and settlement is completed using EURC as the medium. The order book depth and price are the same for both, but the asset deducted from your account is the one you selected.

If you only have EUR in your account but want to settle in EURC, or the other way around, you need to convert first. OKX offers eligible EEA users a 1:1 conversion between EUR and EURC. This conversion is done on the platform, not on-chain, and carries no exchange rate risk because the ratio is fixed. However, the conversion itself may incur fees. The official FAQ wording is that "standard trading fees may apply depending on your fee tier and the specific operation," and actual fees are shown before you confirm the conversion.

1:1 conversion does not mean fee-free trading

One easy point of confusion is this: 1:1 conversion between EUR and EURC is different from trading in the order book. Conversion solves the problem of "I hold euros but want to place an order with EURC." Trading solves the problem of "I use EUR or EURC to buy BTC." A fixed conversion ratio does not mean the whole process is zero cost. Trades in the order book still charge trading fees according to your fee tier.

Also, the availability of 1:1 conversion has conditions. OKX states that "eligible users" can convert at 1:1 on the platform. This eligibility matches the unified order book access: it is for eligible users in EEA (European Economic Area) jurisdictions. If you are not in the EEA or do not meet the account opening requirements for OKX Europe, this feature does not exist for you, and the page entry will not appear in the same way.

How your settlement asset choice affects you

If you choose EUR settlement, your profit and loss is denominated in fiat euros, and you do not need to convert stablecoins back to euros after the trade, saving one conversion step. The trade-off is that you need to hold euros, and the ways to obtain euros (bank deposits, converting other assets, etc.) are different from EURC.

If you choose EURC settlement, you are operating with an on-chain stablecoin unit of account in the order book. This suits users who already hold EURC or plan to move EURC on-chain later. EURC is a MiCA-compliant stablecoin issued by Circle. But stablecoins are not the same as fiat deposits. Their value depends on the issuer's reserves and redemption mechanism. OKX's FAQ also clearly notes that stablecoins may not always maintain their expected value.

For most users whose base currency is euro and who just trade spot on OKX, choosing EUR settlement is more straightforward: one fewer conversion, profit and loss is viewed directly in euros, and you do not need to handle EURC when withdrawing. Choosing EURC makes sense if you already have a EURC balance or if your fund flow requires stablecoin form rather than bank fiat.

Where to check whether your account has this option

Open the OKX app, switch to trading mode, enter Spot, and search for EUR-related pairs. If the unified order book is available to you, you will see EUR-denominated trading pairs and a EUR / EURC settlement choice at the top of the trading interface. On the web, go to Trade > Spot and look for EUR pairs, then check the settlement option at the top.

If you do not see EUR pairs or the EURC settlement option, your account region or verification status is not in the current eligible scope. This OKX Europe service is operated through OKX Europe Ltd and is subject to the MiCA licence from the Malta MFSA. Service eligibility is based on the features actually shown in your account. A webpage being accessible does not mean you can trade.
