Europe OKX Spot-Only Accounts: Which Fee Tier Applies?

For Europe OKX accounts that only trade spot, fees follow a separate fee schedule from the derivatives account. The key difference is whether you have ever opened a derivatives (X-Perps) account. That directly determines which fee tier you fall into, rather than just your 30-day trading volume. For spot-only accounts, regular users pay 0.100% Maker and 0.200% Taker. If you have opened a derivatives account but only trade spot, regular users pay 0.080% Maker and 0.100% Taker. At the regular tier, the difference is already double.

Fee tier is determined by two paths; meeting either one is enough

OKX Europe determines your VIP level based on total account assets (in EUR) or 30-day trading volume (in EUR). You only need to meet one of the two paths, not both. The 30-day trading volume only counts turnover generated in this OKX account's corresponding market. Volume from other exchanges will not carry over.

For spot-only accounts, the current fee schedule is based on the adjustment effective 25 September 2026. The regular tier corresponds to 0 EUR in assets and 0 EUR in trading volume, with Maker at 0.100% and Taker at 0.200%. VIP 1 requires either 100,000 EUR in assets or 100,000 EUR in 30-day trading volume. Maker drops to 0.090% and Taker drops to 0.180%. Further up, starting from VIP 6, Maker reaches 0.000%, but Taker is still 0.080%.

One easily overlooked timing point: from 9 October 2026, the VIP trading volume thresholds for Europe spot-only accounts will be adjusted again. After the adjustment, VIP 1's volume requirement rises from 100,000 EUR to 1,000,000 EUR, and VIP 2 rises from 250,000 to 5,000,000. Higher tiers also move up accordingly. The asset threshold stays the same, but if you previously held a VIP tier based on trading volume, you may fall back to the regular tier after 9 October. You need to check the fee page to confirm your current actual tier instead of relying on the old table.

If you opened a derivatives account but only trade spot, fees are different

If you have ever opened an X-Perps derivatives account, even if you only trade spot afterwards, your spot fees follow the "derivatives account enabled" table. The regular tier is 0.080% Maker and 0.100% Taker. That is noticeably cheaper than the regular tier for spot-only accounts.

But one point needs to be made clear: opening a derivatives account just to get this lower fee table may not be worth it. Opening a derivatives account itself is free, but having the account means you have access to contract trading, and the risk of contracts is far higher than spot. If your self-control is not strong enough, one more access point is one more temptation. My view is that if you are sure you only want spot and your current trading volume is not large, it is not worth opening a derivatives account just to save 0.02% on Maker fees. If you already have contract trading experience and are only temporarily trading spot, then this table works in your favour without any extra action.

Maker and Taker are not determined by the words "limit order"

The standard for distinguishing Maker and Taker is whether the trade provided liquidity to the order book, not what type of order you placed. A limit order resting on the order book waiting to be filled is usually Maker when filled. But if your limit order price crosses the spread and takes existing orders on the other side, then that trade is Taker and you pay the Taker fee. A market order is always Taker. So do not assume you are paying Maker fees just because you used a limit order. The actual tier charged in your trade records is based on your statement.

How to check which tier you are actually in

After logging in to OKX, go to the fee page to see the VIP level currently applied to your account and the corresponding Maker/Taker fees. Do not directly compare with tables from third-party tutorials, because the EEA fee framework in Europe went through multiple adjustments in 2026, and old tables may no longer be valid. After a trade, check the actual fee deducted in your order history or transaction records. Use "trade amount × fee rate" to work backwards and confirm that the charged tier matches what you expected. If it does not match, first check whether you have opened a derivatives account, and then check whether your 30-day trading volume has just crossed a threshold.
