OKX Deposits Are Free: Why Did I Receive Less? On-Chain Fees Explained

When you deposit to OKX, you may notice the amount received is less than what you sent. This money is not taken by OKX. The deposit itself is free, but an on-chain transfer creates a network fee (gas fee), and this fee is deducted from your transfer amount.

Where Was the Money Deducted? Understanding Who Charges Each Fee

OKX's rule is clear: deposits are free, but the received amount does not include fees paid by the sender on the sending side. The actual amount you receive depends on the withdrawal fee and network fee charged by the original platform when you made the withdrawal.

For example: you withdraw 100 USDT from Platform A. Platform A charges a 1 USDT withdrawal fee, and the blockchain charges a 1 USDT network fee (gas). Only 98 USDT is actually sent on-chain. OKX receives 98 USDT, so your deposit is 98 USDT.

Network fees (gas fees) are paid to blockchain miners or validators, not to OKX. Gas fees vary greatly by chain:

  • TRC20 (Tron): usually less than $1

  • BEP20 (BSC): usually less than $1

  • ERC20 (Ethereum): can be $10 to $50 during peak times

Common Reasons Your OKX Deposit Arrives Smaller

1. The sending platform charged a withdrawal fee If you deposit from another exchange to OKX, the sending platform charges a withdrawal fee. That fee is deducted when you make the withdrawal, so the amount actually sent on-chain is already smaller.

2. On-chain network fee (gas fee) When you transfer from a non-custodial wallet (such as MetaMask or the OKX Web3 wallet) to OKX, you must pay the blockchain network's gas fee. This fee is deducted from the asset you are transferring, or from the mainnet coin balance (for example, from your ETH or TRX balance when transferring USDT).

3. Below the minimum deposit amount If your deposit amount is less than the minimum deposit shown on the OKX page, the asset may not arrive. When you contact support to recover it, extra fees may apply.

How to Check How Much Was Deducted

Method 1: Check your withdrawal record Go to the platform you sent funds from and view the withdrawal details. It usually shows: withdrawal amount, fee, and actual amount sent. The difference between these is the deducted portion.

Method 2: Check the TxID on a block explorer Copy the transaction hash (TxID) and search for it on the relevant block explorer (such as Tronscan or Etherscan). The amount received shown by the explorer is the amount actually sent on-chain, and it should match the amount OKX received.

Risk Reminders: Network Paused or Wrong Network Selected

Besides fee deductions, also pay attention to two things:

  • Deposit network may be paused: deposit networks for some assets may be temporarily closed. Assets already sent on-chain will not be lost, but they will only be credited after the network resumes.

  • Choosing the wrong chain can cause lost deposits: for example, if you use the BSC network to send USDT to OKX, the platform no longer supports it. If you choose the wrong chain, you need to contact support, and extra fees may apply.

How to Verify After Depositing

After depositing, go to the OKX Assets page and check the exact amount received. Then compare it with the withdrawal record from the sending platform. The difference should equal the sender's withdrawal fee plus the on-chain network fee. If the received amount does not match your expectation, take the TxID to a block explorer and check the actual on-chain amount. It will be clear.
