When depositing HBAR to OKX, you must fill in the Memo. This is the biggest pitfall for HBAR deposits — even if the address is correct, missing or incorrect Memo will prevent the funds from reaching your account.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure of three things:

  1. You have completed identity verification (KYC) on OKX, otherwise you cannot deposit.

  2. You hold HBAR in another exchange or wallet and know how to initiate a withdrawal/transfer.

  3. Your sending platform supports withdrawals via the Hedera network.

Steps

Case A: Deposit HBAR from an external wallet/exchange to OKX

  1. Get the OKX HBAR deposit address and Memo: Open the OKX App or website, go to [Assets] - [Deposit]. Search for "HBAR", select the Hedera network. The page will display a deposit address and a separate Memo (usually a string of numbers). Copy both.

  2. Initiate the transfer on the sending platform: Go to where your HBAR is stored (e.g., HashPack wallet or another exchange), select "Withdraw" or "Send". Paste the address copied in step 1 into the recipient address field.

  3. Fill in the Memo: In the "Memo" or "Note" field on the sending platform, paste the Memo numbers copied in step 1. This is the most critical step — missing or incorrect Memo will result in funds not being credited.

    • Done when: Both the address and Memo are correctly pasted, and both match what is shown on the OKX deposit page.

  4. Verify the network and submit: Confirm the selected network is Hedera, enter the amount, verify the network fee, and submit the transaction.

    • Done when: The sending platform shows "Withdrawal Successful" and generates a TxID (transaction hash).

Case B: Buy HBAR with funds on OKX

  1. Ensure your OKX account has a USDT or fiat balance. If not, go to the [Buy Crypto] page to fund your account first.

  2. Go to [Trade] - [Spot Trading], search for "HBAR", and select the HBAR/USDT trading pair.

  3. Enter the amount to buy; a market order will be filled instantly, while a limit order will wait to be matched.

    • Done when: The order status shows "Filled", and your HBAR balance increases on the [Assets] page.

Why the Memo is So Important

Unlike many public blockchains, the Hedera network often uses shared deposit addresses for exchanges. The Memo acts as a "house number" to identify who the deposit belongs to. Major exchanges like Kraken, Binance, and OKX all require a Memo when depositing HBAR.

Common Failure Reasons and Risk Reminders

  • Common failure reason: Missing or incorrect Memo. This is the primary reason HBAR deposits are not credited. If the address is correct but the Memo is wrong, the funds will enter OKX's pooled wallet but cannot be allocated to your personal account.

  • Risk reminder: If the Memo is omitted or entered incorrectly, the funds are not lost, but you will need to contact customer support for manual processing. You must provide the TxID and correct Memo. The process can be cumbersome and time-consuming, and some platforms may not be able to recover the funds.

  • Test with a small amount first: If you're unsure about the Memo, send the minimum quantity first to test, and only transfer the rest after confirming the deposit has arrived.

How to Confirm Everything Is Correct

After the transfer, open OKX [Assets] - [Transaction History] and filter for HBAR. If you see a "Deposit Pending" or "Deposit Successful" record, the Memo was entered correctly. Wait for block confirmations — usually completed within a few minutes. If the TxID shows "Success" on a Hedera block explorer but OKX does not show a credit after more than 30 minutes, contact OKX customer support with the TxID and Memo screenshots.
