What the name change really means: a brand upgrade, not a split or migration
In its official rebranding announcement in December 2022, OKX explained that the reason for the name change was that the company's positioning had expanded from a simple crypto trading platform to "a provider of infrastructure for the crypto ecosystem." The "Ex" in OKEx no longer accurately described the scope of the business. The change involved the name, logo, domain, and app branding, but the account system itself was not split into two separate systems. The account you originally registered on OKEx, the verification you completed, and the assets you held still correspond to the same account on okx.com today.
There is another point that can easily cause confusion in the Chinese context: OKX adopted the Chinese name "欧易" in 2021. So "欧易," "OKEx," and "OKX" all refer to the same platform, but "OKEx" is the historical name.
What to check before logging into an old account
The only domain you need to remember is www.okx.com. Manually type this address into your browser's address bar, confirm that the address bar shows okx.com with an HTTPS padlock icon, and then use the login entry on that page. Do not click through from "OKEx login" links in search engine ads, and do not enter your password on any third-party page labeled as okex. Third-party tutorial sites may repeat the correct login steps, but they are not official entry points, and entering your credentials on those pages is not secure.
If you still have the old OKEx app installed on your phone, it may no longer connect or update properly. iOS users need to search for "OKX" in the App Store (non-mainland China region) to get the current version. Android users should get the installation package from the download entry provided on the official okx.com website, and should not download APK files from third-party aggregator sites.
What you may encounter when logging in
You remember the password or account, but cannot receive the verification code: This is the most common issue after an old account has not been used for a long time. First check whether the phone number or email bound at registration is still in use. If the phone number has been deactivated and the email can no longer be accessed, OKX's official troubleshooting process provides a path to "migrate the phone number/email to a verified account," provided you remember the identity document information used for real-name verification and can confirm your identity through facial recognition. This process needs to be done within the app, not by filling out a form on a web page.
You are not sure whether you originally registered on OKEx or another platform: If you remember the registered email or phone number, simply try logging in on okx.com or use the "forgot password" process. If you can receive the verification code and enter the account, it means the account is within the OKX system. If it says the account does not exist, then check whether you misremembered the registration method.
You see zero assets after logging in: First confirm whether you are logging into the account that completed real-name verification. In OKX's account system, the same person's identity document can only be bound to one verified account. If you have registered multiple accounts using different phone numbers or emails, it is normal to see zero assets when logging into the unverified account. Submit your identity document information through the "identity verification" entry, and the system will tell you which account that document is already associated with, then guide you to confirm whether it is your own account and migrate the login method.
About invitation codes
If you need to fill in an invitation code when registering a new OKX account, that field is optional. Whether you use one does not affect your understanding of the brand relationship between OKEx and OKX. Old account login and recovery do not involve re-registration, and no invitation code is required.
