Why Does OKX Require Re-verification for New Device Login?

Re-verification is required when logging in from a new device because OKX's risk control rules deem your current operating environment "untrusted" — this set of rules is based on device fingerprint, login frequency, and geographic information. You need to prove your identity by authorizing from an old device, completing facial recognition, or passing a security verification item.

This is not specific to you individually. Changing to a new phone, reinstalling the app, not logging in for a long time (over 30 days), or even switching network IPs on the same device can all trigger this rule.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, confirm three things:

  1. You remember your OKX login password and your current network is stable.
  2. You can access at least one of: your old device, your linked phone, your linked email, or your Google Authenticator (GA).
  3. The OKX App has been updated to the latest version (Android: 6.75.1, iOS: 6.75.0), which significantly increases the facial recognition pass rate.

Step 1: Log in with your account credentials as usual

Enter your registered email/phone number and password on the OKX App or website and click login. The page will not directly proceed but will pop up a prompt notifying you that "Current device is a new device" or "Login environment is abnormal".

Completion standard: You see the verification method selection page, rather than a direct login failure.

Step 2: Complete verification according to the methods shown on the page

The verification methods listed on the page are determined by the system, and you cannot manually switch. Here are the three most common types:

Scenario A: Facial recognition (most common for users who have completed identity verification on the App)

Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the liveness detection (blink, nod, etc.). This must be done in sufficient light, with no face obstructions, and with camera permission granted to the App.

Facial recognition can be attempted up to 5 times; after failure, you need to contact customer support.

If you fail on the first try, update the App to the latest version and try again; the success rate will improve significantly.

Scenario B: Device verification (old device authorization)

Open the OKX App on your old phone/old tablet, and you will receive an authorization push notification. Tap "It's me, allow login" to complete authorization on the new device.

  • Completion standard: After tapping confirm on the old device, the new device will automatically jump to a successful login.
  • Note: If the old device hasn't logged in for over 30 days, it cannot be used as an authorization device. You'll need to use other verification methods.

Scenario C: Phone/Email/Security item verification (common on web or for unverified accounts)

  • Phone verification: The system calls your linked phone number. After answering, follow the voice prompts — press 1 to confirm, press 2 to cancel. You can request phone verification up to 5 times per hour; if you exceed that, you need to wait until the next hour.
  • Email verification: The system sends a verification email to your linked email. Click the confirmation link in the email to complete authorization. If the link cannot be opened directly, copy it into your browser address bar.
  • Security item verification: Enter the 6-digit dynamic code generated by Google Authenticator (GA).

When the network environment differs between the web and the App, some verification methods may not complete successfully. It is recommended to operate directly in the App for a higher success rate.

Step 3: Click "I have completed verification" after passing verification

In most cases, the system will automatically redirect to your account after authorization. If it does not, click the "I have completed verification" button on the verification page to access your account.

Common Failure Causes

Facial recognition verification failure

An outdated App version is the primary cause. The latest version has a significantly higher facial recognition pass rate than older versions. Check for updates first (Android latest 6.75.1, iOS latest 6.75.0), then confirm camera permission is granted, and switch network environment (from Wi-Fi to 5G).

If it still fails, send front and back photos of your ID to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. using your registered email, and an engineer will follow up.

Risk Reminders

  • Sensitive operations on a new device will trigger 24-hour risk control: After logging in with a verified new device, if you change your password, change your phone number, or unbind GA, the crypto withdrawal and C2C selling functions will be suspended for 24 hours. This is a mandatory security measure, not a bug.
  • Old device permissions are not automatically revoked: After authorizing a new device, the login status on the old device remains valid. After logging in, be sure to go to [Security Center] → [Login Device Management] and manually remove any old devices you no longer use to prevent others from accessing your account via those devices.
  • Verification method is not optional: Use the verification method displayed on the page; it cannot be skipped or switched. If none of the methods are usable, you can only contact customer support for manual processing.

How to Confirm the Operation is Complete

After completing verification and logging in, do two things to confirm account security:

  1. Go to [Security Center] → [Login Device Management], check if your new device is listed among the current devices, and remove any unrecognized devices.
  2. Log out of the current account, then log in again on the same new device. If no verification prompt appears, it means the device has been recorded as trusted by the system.

If logging in again still triggers verification using the same device — this usually happens because of an IP change (e.g., switching from Wi-Fi to 5G) or a large geographical location change. Repeat the verification in Step 2 once, and the system will gradually adapt to your new environment.
