Binance VIP Same-Day Upgrade: Does the New Fee Rate Take Effect from the Next Order or the Next Day?

When you meet the requirements for a VIP upgrade on the same day, the new fee rate does not take effect immediately, nor does it wait until the next day. Instead, it is uniformly refreshed and takes effect at the daily fixed time of 08:00 (UTC) (which corresponds to 16:00 in the UTC+8 time zone).

Step 1: First, understand the logic of the upgrade assessment – meeting conditions does not mean real-time activation

Binance's VIP level is not switched the moment conditions are met; the system evaluates and updates levels at a fixed time each day.

What to do: Recognize the time difference between "meeting the conditions" and "level refresh".

How to do it:

  • The system performs a batch evaluation and update at 08:00 (UTC) (16:00 UTC+8) every day.

  • If you meet the requirements for a new VIP level at some point during the day (for example, in the afternoon), your level will not change immediately. The system will execute the upgrade at the next 08:00 (UTC) update window, only after confirming that you continuously meet the conditions.

  • Prerequisite: Ensure that at the time of the system snapshot (i.e., at a moment before the update), all your indicators (such as the 30-day trading volume, asset holdings, average daily BNB holdings) consistently meet the requirements of the target VIP level.

When you can consider this step complete: You clearly understand that upgrades are not real-time and you need to wait for the system's daily unified "refresh window".

Common reason for failure: Seeing that the day's trading volume has reached the target and immediately starting to trade, assuming the new fee rate is already in effect, only to find that fees are still charged at the old rate.

Step 2: Understand when the new fee rate takes effect – starting from the next order after the update

After the level is updated, the new fee rate will apply to trades placed after the update moment.

What to do: Clarify which orders the new fee rate applies to.

How to do it:

  • After the system updates your VIP level at 08:00 (UTC), any newly submitted orders will be charged based on the fee rate corresponding to your new level.

  • If the system confirms you have been upgraded to VIP 3 at 08:00 (UTC), a limit order placed at 08:01 (UTC) will, when filled, be charged the VIP 3 maker fee. However, a limit order placed earlier at 07:59 (UTC) that gets filled at 08:05 (UTC) will typically still be charged the fee based on your old VIP level at the time the order was placed.

When you can consider this step complete: You have confirmed the level update time point and understand that the new fee rate only affects new orders placed after the update.

Risk warning: If you only met the conditions on the upgrade day but failed to maintain them by the time of the next day's system snapshot, your VIP level will be downgraded at the next update window. Do not drastically reduce your holdings or stop trading on the very day of the upgrade; at least maintain them until after the next day's snapshot.

How to confirm the operation is correct?

After the VIP level is updated, perform a final verification:

  1. Check your level in the App: Go to the "My VIP" page and see if the displayed VIP level matches what you expected. Note: The page refresh may be slightly later than the system update time.

  2. Place a small test order: Once the level update is confirmed, place a very small limit order. On the order confirmation page, check the "Estimated Fee" field to see if the fee rate has changed to the one corresponding to your new VIP level. If it still shows the old rate, it means the system level might not have refreshed yet, or the conditions were not met at the snapshot time.
