How to Use Binance's USYC Off-Exchange Margin? Eligibility and Settlement

The core mechanism of USYC off-exchange margin is this: your collateral does not enter Binance's exchange wallet. Instead, it stays in a third-party bank or Ceffu's cold wallet. Binance only receives a proof that these assets can be used as margin. This means you can trade while your USYC continues to earn Treasury yields. The trade-off is that the eligibility process involves more institutional-level steps than regular leveraged trading.

First, Check If You Qualify

USYC is currently only available to institutional clients. It is not a feature for retail users. Binance's official announcement clearly states that this service expands "institutional off-exchange settlement services." If you do not have a Binance VIP or Institutional account, the operational part of this article does not apply to you for now.

Another harder restriction comes from USYC itself. Circle's official documentation clearly states: USYC is only for non-U.S. persons (as defined under Regulation S). Eligibility restrictions apply. Circle's disclaimer also repeats this point. This means U.S. citizens, residents, or entities cannot participate, regardless of whether they have an institutional account on Binance.

If you are not in the U.S. and have a Binance institutional account, the next step is to choose a custody method.

Two Custody Paths: Which One to Choose

Binance offers two off-exchange custody solutions, each with a different counterparty risk structure and operational process.

Banking Triparty uses a traditional finance tri-party custody model. Your USYC is held at a regulated third-party bank under your own company's account name. Binance can see that these assets are available as margin, but the assets themselves do not enter Binance's balance sheet. This is the path with the lowest counterparty risk because your collateral is held by an independent bank, which meets traditional institutional compliance and governance requirements.

MirrorRSV is a solution provided by Ceffu, Binance's institutional custody partner. Assets are stored in segregated cold wallets and can be verified on-chain. Compared to Banking Triparty, it retains on-chain transparency and auditability, but the custodian is Ceffu rather than a bank.

If your institution has a traditional financial compliance framework, Banking Triparty is a better fit. If you value on-chain verifiability more, or if your institution already uses Ceffu's services, MirrorRSV is the natural choice.

Regarding fees, Binance waived all service fees for Banking Triparty until the end of 2025 and covered the costs of Ceffu's off-exchange settlement solution. Whether this continues after 2026 needs to be confirmed with your Binance account manager.

Onboarding Process: Where to Start

USYC off-exchange collateral is not a self-service feature. Binance's announcement clearly states that institutions wishing to use off-exchange collateral services should contact Binance Banking Triparty or Ceffu, or your Binance VIP & Institutional account manager.

In other words, the entry point is not in a menu in the App or on the website. It is through your connection with Binance's institutional team. If you are a Binance institutional client but do not have a dedicated account manager, you can initiate an inquiry through the Binance VIP & Institutional channel.

After activation, you need to go through Circle's qualified investor onboarding process to hold USYC. USYC is a permissioned token, only open to qualified investors who have completed onboarding. This process is independent of Binance account opening and involves Circle's investor review.

Settlement and Redemption: How USYC Itself Works

To understand USYC settlement, the key is to know that it is not a stablecoin.

The price of USYC gradually increases with the yield from underlying short-term Treasuries and reverse repos. Hashnote's official website shows that 1 USYC is approximately equal to 1.138 USDC, with a net asset yield of about 3.38% (after fees). The number of USYC you hold stays the same, but its corresponding USDC value increases. Yield is reflected in the token price, not paid out separately as interest.

Redemption is nearly instant. Circle's documentation states that USYC supports 24/7/365 subscription and redemption, settled in USDC with T+0 atomic settlement. Hashnote's official website also lists Instant Redemption Capacity. This means when you need to add margin or withdraw funds, you can convert USYC to USDC very quickly.

But there are a few fees to note. Fees listed on Hashnote's official website include: performance fee of 10% (deducted from yield, reflected in the net yield), subscription fee of 0.04%, and redemption fee of 0.03%. There is also a zero-fee tier: when a single wallet's combined daily subscription and redemption volume does not exceed $1M, the fee is 0%. The minimum investment for USYC is $100,000.

One more point about redemption: redemption requests may be subject to size limits. Although the official website says redemptions of "any size" can be processed same-day, actual processing depends on product availability and operational arrangements.

Abnormal Branches You May Encounter in Practice

Your institution can open an account, but you personally are a U.S. person. In this case, even if the Binance institutional account is approved, Circle's USYC onboarding will be blocked. USYC eligibility restrictions are independent of Binance, and Binance cannot bypass them for you.

You have chosen a custodian, but the account opening with Ceffu or the bank is not complete. Off-exchange collateral custody setup and Binance trading account setup are two parallel processes. If the custody side is not ready yet, the off-exchange collateral feature will not work on Binance even if the institutional account shows as activated.

You encounter "product availability" restrictions during redemption. HashKey's USYC product description mentions that redemption processing may be delayed or suspended due to "product availability, system or network disruptions, market conditions, regulatory requirements, or other operational circumstances." Binance's off-exchange collateral solution relies on Circle/Hashnote's fund operations at the bottom layer. If redemption restrictions occur at the fund level, the USDC you use to add margin will not arrive instantly.

You have already used USYC on Deriv or HashKey. USYC is deployed on multiple chains and platforms (Ethereum, BNB Chain, Solana, NEAR, etc.). But USYC on different platforms are independent product entry points. The USYC used for Binance off-exchange collateral goes through Binance's specific custody and settlement channel. USYC held on other platforms cannot be directly "moved" into Binance's off-exchange collateral solution.

Judging Whether This Is Right for You

The essence of USYC off-exchange margin is to let institutions trade derivatives while maintaining Treasury yields. If your institution has idle USDC or short-term Treasury positions and needs to trade derivatives on Binance, this solution is more capital-efficient than directly transferring USDC into the exchange wallet—your margin is earning 3%+ while supporting your trading positions.

But if you do not meet institutional eligibility requirements, or if you are a U.S. person, this path is simply not available. If you only trade occasionally, using regular USDC as margin is simpler and does not require additional custody account opening and Circle onboarding processes.
