When verifying your identity on Binance, the option to choose a passport is on the document selection page. After entering the "Identity Verification" process, the system will ask you to choose a document type, and you will see the "Passport" option. If your current verification has failed or you want to switch documents and try again, you can find the "Change Document Type" button on the Identity Verification page.

Step 1: Enter the Identity Verification Portal

Log in to the Binance website or app, click the avatar in the top-right corner to enter "Account Center," and find "Identity Verification" under "Security" or in the settings.

Case A: First-time verification after registration Simply click "Start Verification" or "Verify Now," and the system will guide you to the information page.

Case B: Previously submitted but failed, need to switch to passport and retry On the Identity Verification page, find and click "Change Document Type." Do not resubmit the same failed material; switching document type often leads to a smoother manual review.

Step 2: Select "Passport" as the Document Type

After entering the document selection screen, you will see a list of supported identity documents.

  • What to do: In the document type dropdown or selection card, click "Passport".

  • How to do it: Make sure the country/region you select matches the issuing country of your passport. If you are a mainland China user using passport verification, choose "China".

  • Completion standard: The system shows "Passport" is selected and prompts you to prepare to capture the passport information page.

Common reasons for failure: You chose passport but uploaded an ID card or an expired passport. The system OCR will detect the document type mismatch and reject it directly. Also, choosing "China" but uploading a Hong Kong or Macau passport will be rejected; the issuing country must match the document.

Risk reminder: Once you select "Passport" and submit during verification, your account verification record will be locked to that document type. If you later need to switch back to an ID card, you will have to go through the full identity verification process again. During that time, account features may be restricted, and there is a daily limit on verification attempts.

Step 3: Re-take or Re-upload Passport Photos

The system will guide you to the capture or upload interface, typically with two modes:

  • On a computer: The page will generate a QR code or link; you need to scan it with your phone to open the camera and take the photo. You cannot upload files directly on the computer.

  • On the mobile app: It will directly open your phone's camera.

Photo requirements: Place the passport's information page (the page with your photo and personal details) flat on a dark, solid background. Ensure all four corners are fully visible, there are no reflections, and the text is clear and readable. Do not use photocopies, screenshots, or any edited images.

How to check after submission: After submitting, immediately check the status on the Identity Verification page. It will change from "Pending Review" to "Under Review." You will receive a confirmation email within a few minutes of submission. If the page shows "Verification Failed" with a reason (such as blurry image or information mismatch), follow the prompts, log in again after 24 hours, and use the "Change Document Type" option or directly re-upload a clear photo via the "Re-take" entry.
