Buying USDT for the first time? Whether you choose Binance or OKX can depend directly on your payment method.

The world's largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, leading in security and liquidity.

Core logic: if you are used to paying directly with a bank card, WeChat, or Alipay, choose Binance. If you prefer lower trading fees and more flexible withdrawal options, OKX has its own advantages.
As a beginner, your first trade should focus on two things: the platform's requirements for regular users, and the cost after you receive your USDT.
Case A: You prefer paying directly by bank card / WeChat / Alipay
If you just want to buy USDT with Chinese yuan through C2C trading (peer-to-peer market), both platforms support it, but there is one key difference in the rules:
Binance: In C2C trading, all regular users must use a payment account whose name matches the platform's real-name verification information.
OKX: The rule is basically the same. Regular users are also not allowed to pay with an account that does not match their real-name verified name.
From the payment route alone, the two processes are similar. For beginner-friendliness, Binance guides and tutorials are more common on the Chinese-language internet, so searching for help may feel easier.
Operation path
Binance: App homepage → [Trade] → [P2P Trading], choose a reputable seller, place an order, and pay.
OKX: App homepage → tap [Buy Crypto] in the upper left → [C2C Buy Crypto], then choose a seller and complete the same steps.
Completion standard: After both sides finish, the USDT will enter your funding account on that exchange. You will see the USDT balance in your assets before you start spot trading or transfer it to another account, but note that some platforms may have a T+1 withdrawal protection limit.
Case B: You care more about the actual cost you receive
If you are past the beginner stage and starting to care about the cost of each trade, the differences become clearer:
C2C trading fee: Neither platform charges a fee in the C2C market itself. The CNY amount you pay is the transaction price.
Spot trading fee: After you receive USDT, if you want to trade crypto-to-crypto on the exchange, both platforms charge around 0.08%-0.1%. Binance has more flexible discount options; for example, using BNB to pay fees can reduce the fee to 0.075%. OKX's official fee rate is close to Binance's, and you can check the platform's latest announcements for actual payment methods and discount rules.
Why "judging by payment path" is more practical
Many comparison articles will tell you that OKX may be friendlier on withdrawal network fees, especially ERC20 on-chain fees, which can be 20%-30% lower than Binance. But for your first USDT purchase, this may not be the most urgent thing. First complete your first trade smoothly; you can fine-tune fee issues later when you trade more often.
Risk reminder: If the names do not match, your money may get stuck
No matter which platform you choose, here is the most common beginner trap: in C2C trading, the name on your payment account must match the real-name verified name on the exchange. If you use a family member's bank card or WeChat to pay, your order will likely be stuck, and it may even lead to account restrictions.

How to check after completing your trade
After completing a C2C order, go to the [Funding Account] or [Assets Overview] page in the exchange app and check whether your USDT balance has increased. For your first trade, it is recommended to start with a small amount and only increase your investment after you have completed the whole process smoothly.
