How Often Is Binance Margin Interest Charged? Repayment Timing Explained

Interest is charged hourly and settles at the top of every hour (for example 08:00, 09:00, 10:00). If you still have unpaid debt at the top of the hour, the system uses the rate at that moment to deduct interest for the next hour.

What to Do

Understand when and how Binance margin interest is charged, and how to avoid being charged more interest than necessary.

Key Concepts

After April 30, 2026, Binance updated its margin interest calculation rules. It changed from "deduct a full hour as soon as you borrow" to "charge first-hour interest by actual seconds," then uses hourly billing after that.

In other words:

  • First interest charge: starts from the moment you borrow, up to the next top of the hour (such as 13:00 or 14:00), and is charged based on the actual number of seconds.

  • Later interest charges: if your loan is still not repaid at the top of the hour (such as 13:00 or 14:00), the system charges interest for a full 1 hour.

For example: you borrow 10,000 USDT at 05:30:49 and the hourly interest rate is 0.0004%. The first interest charge only counts the 29 minutes and 11 seconds up to 06:00, about 0.01945 USDT. In the past, it would have deducted a full hour's 0.04 USDT right away. After that, if you still have not repaid at 06:00, another full hour is charged.

Rates are dynamic and may change every hour. The system uses the rate at each top of the hour to calculate interest for the next hour.

Repay early, but interest already in the billing cycle is not refunded. For example, if you repay at 07:30, but the 07:00–08:00 hour has already been triggered, that 1 hour of interest is still charged and not refunded.

How to Do It

Step 1: Check the rate

On the borrowing page, the system shows the next hour's interest rate. You can also check it using the Binance API endpoint GET /sapi/v1/margin/next-hourly-interest-rate.

Step 2: Decide when to repay

Interest is deducted at the start of each hour. If you want to save on interest, try to repay before the top of the hour, avoiding times like 08:00, 09:00, and 10:00. If you repay after the top of the hour, that full hour of interest has already been deducted.

Case A: Using "Auto-Repay" When you use "Auto-Repay" mode and place an order, the system uses the funds after the trade to repay interest first, then principal.

Case B: Using "Close Position" or "Close All Positions" "Close Position" repays the outstanding debt, and any extra assets are sold as market orders and converted into the settlement currency you selected. "Close All Positions" repays all debts and sells all remaining assets into the settlement currency.

Completion Standards

  1. Open the Binance App → Assets → Margin Account → check the debt and interest records for the relevant coin.

  2. In Transaction History or Margin Interest Records, find the time and amount of each interest deduction.

  3. Confirm that the interest deduction time is after the top of the hour (such as 08:00, 09:00, 10:00), and that the amount matches the debt you held and the rate at that time.

If the interest deduction time is not as expected or the amount looks unusual, contact customer support through the Binance App's "Help Center".
