How to Repay Binance Margin Loans? Interest Settlement and Repayment Order

After borrowing on Binance Margin, repayment isn't just "click and pay." The key is: repay with the same coin you borrowed, and interest is always paid first. You must use the exact same coin you borrowed (e.g., if you borrowed USDT you must repay in USDT, if you borrowed BTC you must repay in BTC). The system will always deduct interest first, then anything left goes toward your principal.

Step 1: Check your current debt and interest

First, understand how much principal you owe and how much interest has built up.

  • What to do: In your Margin Wallet, check the specific numbers for "Liabilities" and "Unpaid Interest."

  • How to do it: Log in to Binance, go to "Wallet" - "Margin Wallet". Under the "Borrow" or "Liabilities" section, you'll see each coin's "Total Debt" (the borrowed principal) and "Unpaid Interest." Interest rates are variable and update every hour; always refer to the real-time rates on the Margin Fee page.

  • Completion standard: You now know exactly which coin you need to repay, how much principal you owe, and the total interest due.

Risk reminder: Interest is compounded hourly and added to your total debt. Unpaid interest is included in your margin level calculation. If you leave interest unpaid for too long, your Cross Margin account's margin level can deteriorate and trigger liquidation. Also, after April 30, 2026, the first interest charge is calculated based on the actual seconds borrowed. After that, if not repaid at the next full hour, interest will be charged in full 1-hour units (source: Binance Dynamic Margin Rate FAQ, 2026-05-06).

Step 2: Choose the right repayment method

You can repay automatically or manually. Choose based on your situation.

  • Situation A: Auto-repayment (ideal when closing a trade directly) What to do: Enable "Auto-repay" when placing your order. How to do it: On the Margin trading interface, place a sell order (e.g., you borrowed USDT to buy BTC, now you sell BTC to get USDT). Select the "Auto-repay" option. Once the order is fully filled, the system will automatically use the USDT you receive to repay your USDT debt. Interest is repaid first, then principal. Completion standard: After the order fills, your debt balance decreases and interest is cleared.

  • Situation B: Manual repayment (when you transfer funds from your wallet separately) What to do: Transfer the required coin from your Spot Wallet to your Margin Wallet, then manually click "Repay." How to do it:

    1. Click "Transfer" and move the coin you need (e.g., USDT) from "Spot Wallet" to "Margin Wallet."

    2. Go back to the Margin Wallet page and find the "Repay" or "Repay Debt" button.

    3. Enter the amount to repay, or simply select "Repay All." Completion standard: After transferring and manually repaying, the corresponding debt balance in your Margin Wallet becomes zero.

Common reason for failure: The most common reason auto-repay fails is that "the funds were used elsewhere." For example, you placed an auto-repay sell order, and the system plans to use the proceeds to pay off the debt. But before that happens, you use that same received money to place a new order, leaving the balance too low. The system will try a second repayment with 90% of the received funds; if that also fails, you'll have to repay manually.

Step 3: Verify the repayment is complete

  • What to do: Confirm both the debt and interest are cleared to zero.

  • How to do it: Go back to the "Liabilities" or "Borrow" page in your Margin Wallet. Check that the "Total Debt" and "Unpaid Interest" for that coin are both "0." If not zero, it means there's still a balance left unpaid, or interest is still accruing.

  • Completion standard: In your Margin Wallet list, the coin's liability status shows "No debt" or "0."

How to verify the operation is done: Log in to Binance, enter "Margin Wallet", and check whether the coin's "Debt" and "Unpaid Interest" have both returned to zero. If interest remains unpaid for a long time, even if the principal is repaid, the system will continue to charge interest and add it to the total debt, affecting account safety. If you have the "BNB Discount" feature enabled, you get a 5% discount on margin interest, and the repayment order stays the same — first applied to interest (source: Binance Cross Margin Trading Guide, 2026-06-23).
