What to Do When Your Binance Identity Document Has Expired?
After your document expires, you cannot simply resubmit the old one. You must use Binance's "Update Identity Verification" process to replace your old information with new, valid documents. If you fail to update in time, your account will be restricted to "Withdrawal Only" mode.
Prerequisites
Before you begin the update, confirm these two things:
Your new document is ready and valid. Renewal times vary – identity cards can usually be renewed 6 months before expiry, while passports may take 7–30 business days. You cannot proceed without the new document in hand.
You can log in to your Binance account normally. You must be able to receive email and SMS verification codes.
Step 1: Log in and find the "Update Identity Verification" entry
What to do: Log in to your Binance account and locate the page for updating your KYC information.
How to do it:
Option A: Via the website
Log in to the Binance website, hover over the profile icon in the top-right corner, and click [Account].
Go to the [Identity Verification] page and click [Update Identity Information].
Option B: Via the App
Log in to the Binance App and tap the profile icon in the top-left corner of the homepage.
Tap the [>] in the profile section to enter Account Information.
Tap [Verification] and find the [Update Identity] option.
Option C: If you cannot find the update entry
Contact online support via the Binance App or website and type "How to update Identity Verification". The support bot will automatically reply with a "Click here to reset KYC" link.
How to tell you've completed this step: You successfully enter the "Update Identity Verification" page and see a dropdown menu with available update reasons.
Step 2: Select the update reason and confirm the declaration
What to do: On the update page, choose "Document expired" as the reason for the update.
How to do it:
In the update reason dropdown, select: "My document has expired or will expire soon".
Carefully read the declaration terms on the page.
Check [I understand and agree to this declaration] and click [Confirm Update].
How to tell you've completed this step: After clicking confirm, the page advances to allow you to enter your new document details.
Important: Once you confirm the update, your account will immediately switch to "Withdrawal Only" mode – you cannot trade or deposit until the review is approved. Finish any necessary transactions beforehand.
Step 3: Enter new document information and upload new documents
What to do: Enter the information exactly as it appears on your new document and upload clear photos.
How to do it:
Enter updated identity information: Full name, document number, issue date, expiry date, etc. Ensure every detail matches the original exactly, including capitalization and spacing in pinyin names.
Select document type and issuing country/region: Choose the type of document you are uploading (ID card, passport, driver's license).
Upload new document photos:
Use original physical documents for photos; screenshots, photocopies, or scans are not accepted.
Make sure all four corners of the document are visible, with no glare, and that the text is clear and legible.
If using a national ID card, upload both the front and back sides.
Verify the auto-recognized information: The system will automatically capture details from the document. Double-check that the name, document number, and expiry date match the physical document. Correct any discrepancies manually.
How to tell you've completed this step: New information is filled in, new document photos are successfully uploaded, and you click [Continue].
Step 4: Complete facial recognition and submit for review
What to do: After uploading documents, complete the facial recognition (liveness check) to prove the operation is being done by you.
How to do it:
Place your face inside the viewfinder frame and make sure your entire face is clearly visible.
Remove hats, glasses, masks, or other obstructions; do not use filters.
Ensure there is sufficient lighting and follow the on-screen instructions (blink, turn your head, etc.).
You can attempt identity verification up to 5–10 times per day. If rejections reach the limit within 24 hours, you must wait 24 hours before trying again.
How to tell you've completed this step: Facial recognition is passed and the page displays "Submission successful" or "Under review".
Step 5: Wait for review and confirm the result
What to do: After submission, wait for the Binance review team to process your case and watch for the result notification.
How to do it:
Once approved, Binance will send a notification email to your registered email address.
If rejected, the page will display the reason (e.g., unclear photo, mismatched information). Correct the issue based on the feedback and resubmit.
Please be patient during the review process; there is no need to contact customer service to expedite it.
How to tell you've completed this step: You receive Binance's approval email, your Identity Verification page status returns to "Verified", and all account functions are restored.
Common reasons for failure
Starting the process before obtaining the new document: Selecting "Document has expired" without actually having a new document to upload will block the process.
Poor new document photo quality: Using photocopies, screenshots, or photos that are blurry, have glare, or are cropped.
Information mismatch with the document: The name or document number entered differs from the original; even an extra space can cause a failed match.
Facial recognition failure: Wearing glasses or a hat, insufficient lighting, or shadows on the face.
Risk reminder
Once you submit the update request, your account will immediately be limited to "Withdrawal Only". If you need to trade urgently, complete your transactions before performing this operation.
If you fail to complete the update within the specified period (usually 180 days), the system may suspend your withdrawal function.
Do not submit fake or someone else's documents. Binance performs face matching; if identity fraud is detected, your account will be frozen.
Next step: Confirm your new document is in hand, log in to Binance, go to the [Identity Verification] page, and start the update. If you don't see the update entry, send "How to update Identity Verification" via online support to get a reset link. After submission, check your email; the review usually completes within 1–3 business days. If exceeded, contact online support to check progress.
