Binance and eToro copy trading do not copy the same thing. Binance spot copy trading copies the buy and sell actions of a lead trader on crypto spot trading pairs. Your funds go into a separate copy trading wallet, and you are following "orders." eToro's CopyTrader copies the overall portfolio allocation of the investor you follow, including stocks, ETFs, and crypto assets allocated by percentage. You are following a "portfolio." If you want to "copy a series of crypto spot trades," Binance is more direct. If you want to "move someone's multi-asset allocation into your own account by percentage," eToro's product logic is closer.

Binance: Copies Crypto Spot Orders with Separate Funds
The core mechanism of Binance spot copy trading is to copy a lead trader's opening and closing actions on spot trading pairs in real time. A copy trader first needs to enter the amount they plan to use for copy trading. This amount is moved from the spot wallet to the spot copy trading wallet. During copy trading, it cannot be withdrawn directly. It is only moved back to the spot wallet after copy trading ends. This design means you are not copying the coins in the other person's wallet. You are copying their buy and sell behavior on supported trading pairs.
There are two copy modes: ratio-based copy trading allocates your order amount based on the percentage of available balance the lead trader uses. Fixed-amount copy trading places each order with a fixed amount you set. For example, if a lead trader uses 50% of their available balance to buy a coin, and you choose ratio-based copy trading with 500 USDT invested, the system will try to follow with about 250 USDT. However, the actual filled amount may be less due to slippage. Binance sets a default limit price slippage cap of 0.3% for BTC/USDT and ETH/USDT, and 0.5% for other trading pairs. You can also customize it up to 3%.
Copy trading currently supports about 100+ spot trading pairs, and this may change. When a lead trader makes a profit, they can receive 10% of the copy trader's profit as a profit share. The copy trader keeps 90%. Note that Binance copy trading uses a separate account system from the normal spot account. Sub-accounts do not support copy trading.
eToro: Copies a Multi-Asset Portfolio Allocation Including Stocks and Crypto
eToro's CopyTrader does not only follow crypto orders. When you start copying a Popular Investor, your funds are allocated based on the asset weights of that person's current portfolio. This may include stocks, ETFs, and crypto assets, and even the allocation of unallocated cash and unrealized profit and loss. For US users, eToro CopyTrader clearly covers stocks, ETFs, and crypto assets. In other words, you are copying the structure of "which assets this person puts money into and how much each one takes up," not just their crypto buy and sell actions.
For crypto assets specifically, eToro's disclosure document explains that digital assets bought through CopyTrader are executed by eToro USA LLC, an MSB registered with FinCEN. If the person you copy buys leveraged or inverse ETFs, those assets may also be bought into your account. This means you need to check the copied investor's holdings before starting. Otherwise, you may unknowingly copy risk exposure beyond crypto.
eToro copy trading also has a minimum position limit: each copied position must be at least $1. Positions below this amount will not be copied. When the copied investor adjusts their portfolio, the system will automatically reallocate your copy portfolio to keep the same proportions. During reallocation, adding funds, withdrawing funds, or closing positions individually may be temporarily restricted. Fully deploying new funds may take one to two trading days because different assets have different market opening times.
Key Difference: Following "Actions" or Following "Allocation"
The fundamental difference is what is being copied. The output of Binance spot copy trading is a series of crypto spot trades. What you end up holding is crypto assets in the copy trading wallet, and you cannot withdraw them freely during copy trading. The output of eToro is a proportionally allocated multi-asset portfolio. Your account may show stocks, ETFs, and crypto assets at the same time.
| Comparison | Binance Spot Copy Trading | eToro CopyTrader |
|---|---|---|
| What is copied | Lead trader's crypto spot buy and sell orders | Copied investor's overall portfolio allocation percentages |
| Asset range | Crypto spot trading pairs (about 100+) | Stocks, ETFs, crypto assets, and more (varies by region) |
| Fund storage | Separate spot copy trading wallet; cannot be withdrawn directly during copy trading | Allocated within the copy account according to portfolio percentages |
| Copy mode | Ratio-based or fixed amount; slippage cap can be set | Allocated based on the copied investor's portfolio weights |
| Fees/profit share | Lead trader receives 10% of copy trader's profit | Depends on Popular Investor program and regional rules |
| Regional restrictions | Must complete identity verification and be from an eligible region | Crypto asset services vary by region; executed by an MSB entity in the US |
If your goal is to follow a crypto trader's spot operations, Binance's product boundary is narrower and clearer. What you see are trading pairs and buy and sell actions. If you want a multi-asset copy portfolio that may include crypto assets, eToro's framework is broader. But it also means you need to accept that you may copy stock or ETF holdings you are not familiar with.
Two Things to Confirm Before Copy Trading
First, whether your region can use it. Binance spot copy trading clearly requires identity verification, proof of address, and eligibility from a qualified region. eToro's crypto copy trading in the US is executed through eToro USA LLC, an MSB. Not all asset types are the same in all regions. A webpage loading does not mean your account is eligible for copy trading.
Second, what you will be left with when copy trading ends or pauses. After a Binance copy portfolio is closed, assets are moved back to the spot wallet before withdrawal. eToro restricts operations during reallocation. Automatic adjustments may realize profit or loss. After it ends, you need to check whether the asset types and percentages actually held in your account match your expectations.
