How to Use OKX Wallet Trader Mode: Limit Orders, Stop-Loss, and Exit

OKX Wallet Trader Mode's limit orders and take-profit/stop-loss are essentially a signed "intent" that a TEE executes for you when conditions are met. You don't need to keep the app online, but Trader Mode itself has an activation period (7/15/30 days). After it expires, all pending orders will pause. The key to your exit strategy is right here: set your take-profit and stop-loss at the time of buying, not after you've bought and come back to do it manually.

Enabling Trader Mode is the prerequisite for using these features

Limit orders and take-profit/stop-loss both rely on Trader Mode. Without enabling it, you can only do market swaps in the DEX Swap interface.

The entry point is on the OKX Wallet homepage: tap the wallet name, find Trader Mode, and select the account and activation duration. You can also create a new account specifically for Trader Mode.

There are two restrictions for enabling it. At first-time activation, the total asset value of that mnemonic account cannot exceed 200,000 USD. After successful activation, the balance is no longer subject to this limit. Activation duration can be 7, 15, or 30 days. When it expires, Trader Mode automatically deactivates and the private key in the TEE is automatically deleted. If you still have pending orders running, they will be paused, not cancelled.

Limit Orders: Trigger by USD price or exchange rate

Trader Mode's limit orders have two trigger methods.

Trigger by USD price: Set a USD price. When the market reaches that price, the swap is automatically executed. This method is intuitive and suitable when you have a clear target buy or sell price.

Trigger by exchange rate: Set a minimum token amount requirement. The order only triggers when the exchange rate guarantees you will receive at least that many tokens. This method is more precise because it directly constrains your final outcome, not the intermediate price.

Limit orders have a default validity of 30 days and can be manually cancelled before execution. Placing and cancelling orders do not incur network fees. Only actual swap execution requires on-chain gas.

One detail to note: limit orders are executed through swap transactions after triggering, so the final amount received may be affected by slippage. If you have set a slippage tolerance, the actual execution result may deviate from the trigger price.

Take-Profit and Stop-Loss: Set them when buying

This is the most practical feature in Trader Mode and the core of the "exit" step.

Take-profit and stop-loss can only be set simultaneously when submitting a market buy order. There is no supported path to separately place take-profit/stop-loss orders after buying. So before you buy, you need to decide: at what price to take profit, and at what price to stop loss.

Both take-profit and stop-loss are calculated based on USD price, referencing your initial purchase price. If you buy at a certain USD price, the take-profit trigger price and stop-loss trigger price are both set relative to that purchase price, not relative to the original on-chain token exchange rate.

If you feel these are not enough, OKX documentation mentions that Trailing Stop is on the upcoming features list. Until then, take-profit and stop-loss have fixed trigger prices.

Practical operation sequence for exit strategy

If you plan to use Trader Mode for a trade with a clear exit plan, the operation sequence is as follows:

  1. Enable Trader Mode first, confirm the status is green (enabled), and remember the expiration time.

  2. Open the OKX DEX Swap interface, select the token and network.

  3. Select market buy, enter the amount.

  4. Find the take-profit/stop-loss settings in the buy interface, fill in the target price and stop-loss price.

  5. Set the funding source to Trader Mode, check slippage, network fee, and estimated received amount, then sign and submit.

After submission, the buy executes immediately, and the take-profit/stop-loss conditional orders are placed on the OKX DEX backend for monitoring. When conditions are met, the sell is automatically executed without manual intervention.

Pause and exit: two different situations

Expiration pause: After Trader Mode expires, pending orders are paused but not cancelled. You can re-enable Trader Mode, then go to the order list and individually select resume or cancel. Before resuming, confirm whether the order's token, price, and trigger conditions are still appropriate—the market may have changed.

Manual deactivation: If you actively deactivate Trader Mode, all strategy orders (including placed and preset ones) are immediately revoked and cannot be recovered. After deactivation, assets remain in your mnemonic wallet, but conditional orders will not continue to be monitored.

So if you only temporarily don't want to use it, letting it expire and pause is safer than manual deactivation. Orders paused due to expiration still have a chance to be resumed, while manually deactivated ones do not.

Viewing and cancelling orders

Active orders and order history can be viewed in two places: the pending order area on the OKX DEX trading page, and transaction records. In pending order status, select the corresponding order to cancel it. Viewing pending orders requires a signature to verify wallet ownership. This prevents others from seeing your pending order information and performing targeted actions (such as stop-loss hunting).
