Receiving an account termination notice can be a shock. But don't panic. There is only one thing that matters: close your positions and withdraw your money before the account is fully locked. This window is usually very short, possibly a few days, but in the worst case only 24 hours, so act quickly.

Step 1: Confirm Your Account Status and Remaining Time
Put the panic aside. Right now, you need information. You must immediately figure out two things: whether the account is being frozen right away, or whether you have been given a deadline to exit.
Determine whether the account is currently in "reduce-only mode" or "fully restricted from trading."
Log in to the OKX app or website immediately. Usually, this type of notice comes with a pop-up or a mandatory announcement. Be sure to screenshot and save the full notice. Then go to the "Derivatives Account" or "Assets" page and check whether the trading buttons are grayed out or if there is a "reduce-only" notice.
Case A: You can still trade (usually a 1-7 day exit period). This is the best scenario. You can actively close positions at market price and control your losses and fees. If the notice clearly states that the account will be switched to "reduce-only mode," you can only close positions and cannot open new ones. Pay attention to this difference.
Case B: Trading is already disabled ("frozen" or "closed" status). If you can no longer take action, your funds are usually locked, waiting for you to contact customer support or for legal processing. Do not hesitate. Move to the next step immediately.
Confirm whether your account status allows you to actively close positions or if trading is already restricted.
Step 2: Urgent Handling for Different Positions
If the account is still operable, close all positions.
How to do it:
Spot: Directly place a market sell order and convert to USDT or a stablecoin. This is the easiest to handle. Do it right away.
Futures (isolated/cross margin): If the account can still trade, prioritize closing with market orders. Do not place limit orders and wait. Time is worth more than the small price difference right now. In "reduce-only mode," the system usually only allows closing positions. Simply click the "Close" button.
Earn/Staking products: Fixed-term savings or staked assets usually cannot be redeemed at any time. Check if there is an "early redemption" option. If yes, do it immediately, even if you lose the yield. If not, contact customer support to ask about the forced redemption process.
Completion standard: The positions page shows all positions are zero, and assets have been converted into withdrawable stablecoins or fiat currency.

Step 3: Asset Transfer and Follow-up
Once positions are closed, the next step is to move your money out safely.
Withdraw remaining assets to an external wallet or another compliant exchange before the account is fully frozen.
If the account still allows withdrawals, use the withdrawal function first. Prepare in advance an external wallet address where you control the private key (such as MetaMask) or a deposit address on another compliant trading platform. When transferring, pay special attention to network selection and do not choose the wrong chain.
Risk reminder: If the withdrawal process prompts you that "KYC information needs to be supplemented" or "video verification is required," this may be part of the platform's risk control process. It is best to cooperate and complete it, because after the account is terminated, applying for withdrawal approval again will be very difficult and may lead to a long waiting process.
If the account is already restricted from trading and you cannot close positions yourself, the only option is to contact human customer support through official channels. Prepare your registered email, UID, and the type and amount of assets you want to handle. Try to explain the situation clearly in one message.
