Short answer: Yes, you can switch back. But switching back is not just flipping a switch. Your Smart Account (now called "Trader Mode") has an activation period. When it expires, it will automatically switch back to a regular account. You can also disable it manually ahead of time.

There is one key background detail: in March 2026, OKX officially renamed "Smart Account" to "Trader Mode". The features are the same, but the name changed. So if you cannot find the "Smart Account" entry in your wallet, look for "Trader Mode" instead.

Step 1: Check Your Current Account Status

Smart Account (Trader Mode) and regular account are two separate address systems. Your assets are not affected — what changes is the "mode", not the "wallet". There are three account statuses:

  • Green (Enabled): You are currently in Smart Account mode and can use advanced features like limit orders, stop-loss/take-profit, and copy trading.

  • Orange (Expiring Soon): Less than 3 days remain in the activation period. The system will prompt you to renew or prepare to switch.

  • Gray (Disabled): You have switched back to regular account mode. Advanced trading features are no longer available.

How to check: Open the OKX Web3 wallet. The status indicator will be displayed at the top of the home page. If it is green or orange, you are still in Smart Account mode.

Step 2: Two Ways to Switch Back to a Regular Account

Method 1: Let It Expire Automatically (Easiest)

When you enable Smart Account, you need to choose an activation period — 7 days, 15 days, or 30 days. When it expires, the system will automatically disable Smart Account mode and switch back to a regular account. At the same time, the private key in the TEE secure environment will be automatically deleted. You do not need to do anything. After expiration, the account automatically returns to a regular account.

Method 2: Disable Manually Ahead of Time (Switch Back Immediately)

If you do not want to wait, you can disable it manually:

  1. Open the OKX Web3 wallet and go to the home page.

  2. Tap the "Trader Mode" or "Smart Account" entry in the status bar at the top.

  3. At the bottom of the page, you will see the "Disable" option. Tap it and confirm.

After manual disabling, all running strategy orders (limit orders, stop-loss/take-profit, recurring buys, etc.) will be canceled immediately. Make sure to handle any unfinished orders before disabling.

Step 3: What Happens After Disabling

Whether it expires automatically or you disable it manually, these changes will occur after switching back to a regular account:

  • You can no longer use advanced trading features like limit orders, stop-loss/take-profit, and copy trading.

  • All strategy orders will be paused or canceled. Your assets are safe and will not be lost.

  • The account returns to a regular EOA address mode. Smart Account features like paying gas with stablecoins will no longer be supported.

After disabling, you can re-enable Smart Account at any time — just go through the activation process again and choose a new activation period. However, previously canceled strategy orders will not be restored. You will need to set them up again.

One thing worth noting: During the Beta testing phase, there is an asset limit for enabling Smart Account. Only mnemonic wallets with assets under 10,000 USD can enable it. If your current assets exceed this amount, you may need to wait for OKX to gradually relax the limit before you can enable it again.

How to verify the switch is complete: After disabling, return to the wallet home page and check the account status indicator. If it shows gray (Disabled), you have successfully switched back to a regular account. If your assets have not changed unexpectedly and the advanced trading feature entry is gone, the switch is complete.
