Before a bank integrates OKX Rubix, there is one key fact to understand: Rubix is not a simple "plug-and-play" interface for banks. It is a modular digital asset service framework. Choosing to integrate means deciding which parts to outsource to OKX and which parts to keep within your own governance system. The core of reviewing responsibilities is to clearly draw this boundary.

First, Confirm Which Integration Scenario Your Institution Fits
Rubix is officially positioned for regulated financial institutions, including banks, brokers, neobanks, and private banks. Different institution types have different responsibility considerations.
If you are a traditional bank that wants to offer crypto buying and selling to retail customers, Rubix provides the backend infrastructure: liquidity, execution, settlement, and custody connections. Your responsibility is customer onboarding, KYC, front-end experience, and compliance reporting. OKX handles market access and trade execution.
If you are a private bank or wealth management firm, Rubix's core value is allowing your clients to gain digital asset exposure through your existing advisory framework. You need to review responsibilities including: whether custody arrangements use a licensed bank custodian partnered with OKX or your existing custody system; and whether collateral optimization supports the asset types your clients commonly use.
If you are a neobank or digital bank, Rubix is positioned so you can embed crypto trading, stablecoin payments, and staking features without building your own exchange infrastructure. You need to review: front-end branding and UX are controlled by you, but how responsibilities for trade execution, liquidity sourcing, and settlement are divided.
Review Integration Responsibilities by Module
Rubix's modular design means you do not need to accept everything. You can choose module by module. Here are the responsibility boundaries to clarify for each module:
Regulated Market Access. Rubix covers license regions including Europe MiCA/MiFID II, UAE VARA, Australia AFSL/AUSTRAC, Argentina CNV, and US MSB/MTL. You need to check whether your institution is registered in a covered region, and whether Rubix's licensed status can support the compliance requirements for the services you offer locally. If Rubix's license in your jurisdiction does not cover your specific business type, this module cannot be used.
Liquidity and Execution. Rubix offers two execution methods: a central limit order book (CLOB) and over-the-counter request-for-quote (RFQ). You need to check: whether your client orders are routed to OKX's execution engine through your OMS/EMS system, or connected directly via API. Responsibility for execution quality must be clarified — if slippage or price deviation occurs, is the responsibility with OKX's execution system or your routing logic.
Post-Trade Settlement. Rubix offers a "trade first, settle later" model, allowing you to settle funds after the trade is completed without pre-funding on the exchange. This is good for capital efficiency, but you need to check whether your treasury management system supports the accounting logic for delayed settlement, and who is responsible for the remediation process if settlement fails.
Connectivity. Rubix supports FIX, REST, and WebSocket APIs, as well as custom integration with existing OMS/EMS systems. You need to check whether your technical team has the capability to handle these integrations, or whether you need additional technical support from Rubix. API access control, rate limits, and failover mechanisms should be confirmed before going live.
Off-Exchange Custody. Rubix does not force you to use OKX's own custody. It allows you to choose a "licensed bank custodian or third-party provider." This is the most critical part of responsibility division: if your institution already has a relationship with a custody bank, you need to confirm whether that bank is on Rubix's integrated partner list. If not, the responsibility for asset custody becomes complicated.
Collateral Optimization. Rubix supports fiat, stablecoins, crypto assets, and tokenized money market funds as collateral. You need to check whether your risk framework accepts these asset types, and whether OKX's collateral valuation method and haircut rates align with your internal risk control standards.
Three Things to Confirm Before Integration
First, is your institution within Rubix's target customer scope? Rubix's official description clearly targets "regulated financial institutions" and already operates with institutional partners in Europe, Asia-Pacific, UAE, and Latin America. If your institution is not in these regions, or your business type does not fall within Rubix's covered categories of bank/broker/neobank/private bank, the feasibility of integration needs to be confirmed directly with the OKX Institutional team.
Second, can your governance framework accept "partial outsourcing"? Rubix's design philosophy is "you keep the brand, policies, and client relationships; OKX provides the backend infrastructure." This means your board and compliance department need to accept that the core execution of digital asset trading is handled by an external institution, while your institution bears the ultimate responsibility at the client level.
Third, do you have a clear integration lead and internal technical capability? Rubix integration involves API integration, OMS/EMS connection, custody partner coordination, and other technical steps. If you do not have enough internal technical resources to manage these integrations, post-integration operations and troubleshooting will become an ongoing problem.
