If your email is lost but your authenticator (Google Authenticator) still works, you still hold the "second key" to your account – there's no need to re-register. The standard process to change your email requires verifying both the old and new email addresses, which you can't do with a dead email. However, you can use the "Reset security verification" feature to bypass the invalid email and bind a new email using your existing authenticator. This can be done either while logged in or from the login screen, through the "Unable to verify?" entry point.

Check whether you are currently logged in

Whether you can proceed depends on whether you are still able to log into your OKX account.

  • Case A (Still logged in): This is the smoothest path. Go directly to the Security Center, change your email, and use the authenticator instead of the unreachable email to complete identity verification.
  • Case B (Cannot log in): When logging in, the system may ask for a password and then an email verification code (which you cannot receive). In this case, you need to use the "Unable to verify?" option on the login page to reset your security verification methods.

Prerequisite: Your Google Authenticator app must still be able to generate valid codes, and you must remember your login password. If you have also forgotten your password, you will need to go through the "Forgot password" process first, using the authenticator to verify your identity and reset the password.

Choose your path based on login status

Path 1: While logged in (recommended)

If you can log into the OKX App normally, this is the fastest method.

Step 1: Go to Security Settings

  • What to do: Open the OKX App, tap the profile icon in the top left corner, and go to [Profile and Settings].
  • How to do it: Select [Security Settings] or [Security Center]. Under security settings, find the [Email Verification] or [Email] option.
  • When are you done?: You see the currently bound (and inaccessible) email address.

Step 2: Start the change process

  • What to do: Tap [Change Email Address].
  • How to do it: The system will ask you to verify your identity. Since your old email cannot receive codes, don't try to fetch the email. Look carefully at the screen for an option labeled [Unable to verify?] or [Other verification methods].
  • When are you done?: You enter the security verification reset process rather than the standard new-email verification flow.

Step 3: Complete identity verification with authenticator and bind a new email

  • What to do: After selecting [Reset security verification] or [Unable to verify?], the system will let you choose which item to reset.
  • How to do it:
    1. Choose [Email].
    2. The system will ask you to verify using other bound items. Here, select [Authenticator App Code] to prove your identity.
    3. Open Google Authenticator and enter the current dynamic code.
    4. Once verified, you can enter a new, functional email address and complete the binding.
  • When are you done?: The page shows that the email was changed successfully, and your new email receives a confirmation email from OKX.

Path 2: Not logged in

If you are logged out and the login requires an email verification code.

Step 1: Initiate reset on the login page

  • What to do: On the OKX login page, after entering your account and password, you will land on a two-step verification page.
  • How to do it: On the page asking for an email verification code, tap [Use other verification methods] or [Unable to verify?].
  • When are you done?: You reach the interface for resetting security verification methods.

Step 2: Reset security verification items

  • What to do: The system will guide you through resetting your security verification items.
  • How to do it:
    1. Select [Reset Email].
    2. You will then enter identity verification. The system will ask you to use other bound security items (such as your authenticator) to confirm you are the account owner.
    3. Enter your Google Authenticator code to complete the identity verification.
  • When are you done?: You have passed identity verification.

Step 3: Bind a new email

  • What to do: After verification, follow the prompts to bind a new email.
  • How to do it: Enter a new, accessible email address, receive and enter the verification code, and complete the binding. This process is essentially a "reset" rather than a simple "change", so you do not need the old email's verification code.
  • When are you done?: The new email is successfully bound, and the account is usable again.

Risk notice: After resetting your email, for the security of your assets, you will not be able to withdraw funds or sell crypto via P2P for 24 hours. This is the platform's security protection mechanism and is normal. Please do not attempt large transactions during this period.

After completing these steps, how do you confirm your recovery was successful?

Try logging in to your OKX account with your new email and original password. If you can log in successfully and the bound email in the [Security Center] has been updated to the new address, the process is complete. Next, test that your new email can receive notifications – go to the OKX Security Center and change a less sensitive security setting, then confirm the system email is received. If you need to withdraw funds, wait until the 24-hour risk control period has passed before proceeding.
