Yes, your account changes when you move to a new country. Your account will be migrated to the legal entity that operates in your new country of residence, and your access rights, features, and fee structures will all update accordingly. You cannot simply choose any country—OKX only allows switching to countries where it offers compliant services; countries not on the list cannot be selected.

1. How Does Account Ownership Change?

OKX operates through different legal entities in different countries and regions. Changing your residential address essentially triggers a cross-region migration of your account:

  • Change of entity: Your account moves from its original legal entity to the one corresponding to your new country (for example, from OKX Global to OKX Brazil or OKX El Salvador).

  • Data retention: Trading history and account statements will still be viewable after migration, but once the update is complete, you will no longer be able to download pre-migration historical reports and statements.

  • Login credentials remain unchanged: Email, phone number, and authenticator are retained—no need to re-register.

2. Pre-Migration Checklist

Step 1: Confirm migration eligibility

  • What to do: Check whether your account meets the prerequisites for changing residence.

  • How to do it:

    • If both your nationality and current residence are China, you cannot change your residence.

    • Your account must have less than 3 previous residence changes—you can only change your residence a total of 3 times.

    • All open orders and active earn products must be cleared.

    • Your account mode must be set to Spot mode (path: Trade page → three dots in the top right → Trade Settings → Account Mode → Spot Mode).

  • When is it done: All four conditions are met.

Step 2: Assess asset and feature impact

  • What to do: Check which coins and features are supported in your target country.

  • How to do it:

    • If certain coins are not supported in the target country, you'll need to handle them in advance (close positions or withdraw).

    • C2C fiat trading may be affected: In some countries, the C2C feature may become unavailable after the change.

    • If the target country is on the restricted regions list, the system will directly show "not supported."

  • When is it done: You've confirmed that the target country supports all the assets you hold and the features you need.

Step 3: Prepare proof of address

  • What to do: Prepare a residence address proof document issued within the last 3 months.

  • How to do it: Acceptable documents include: utility bills, bank statements, official government letters (must show your name and full address). Electronic copies must clearly display all four corners of the document.

  • When is it done: The document meets the requirements and the information matches the address you've entered in the system.

Step 4: Execute the migration

  • What to do: Officially submit the change in the system.

  • How to do it:

    1. In the App, go to [Profile icon in top left] → [Profile] → [Identity Verification].

    2. If a login from a different location alert appears, tap the notification bar to enter the verification center.

    3. Select [I have moved to another country].

    4. Choose your target country and submit your proof of address.

  • When is it done: The page shows that the submission was successful and is pending review.

3. What Happens During the Migration

  • Temporary logout: During the update, you'll be logged out for about 5 minutes. Do not repeatedly try to log in during this period; you'll receive an email notification once the review is complete.

  • Temporary feature restrictions: Some features may be limited during the review, and will be automatically restored after approval.

  • API domain update: If you use APIs, you'll need to update the API domain according to the new region.

  • Fee schedule reset: Your trading fee tier will be recalculated based on the new country's standards.

Common Reasons for Failure

If you see the message "Please close financial services" when trying to change residence, it's usually because there are still active orders, earn products, or contract positions in your account. You need to close all positions and cancel all open orders before proceeding. Additionally, if both your nationality and residence are China, the page will directly display "You cannot change your country/region of residence," and there is no workaround for this.

Risk reminder: If some assets do not update after migration, it could affect trading and position management. We recommend confirming that your target country supports all the assets you hold before migrating, and closing or withdrawing any unsupported assets in advance. If you have already enabled a "Global Trading Account," you must close that account before changing your residence.

After completing the above checks, how do you confirm the migration was successful?

Once approved, you'll receive a confirmation email from OKX stating that your residence has been updated. Then log in to your account and check the [Security Center] → [Country/Region of Residence] field to confirm it now shows the new address. After the migration is complete, your account's features and permissions will automatically switch to the new country's available services.
