On OKX, depositing wBTC (Wrapped Bitcoin) depends on where your wBTC is currently located. Simply put, there are two scenarios: if your wBTC is in another exchange or your on-chain wallet, use the "Deposit" channel; if you want to buy wBTC directly with fiat, it's the "Buy Crypto" process.

wBTC (Wrapped Bitcoin) is a token that "wraps" the value of Bitcoin onto other blockchains for use, pegged 1:1 to Bitcoin, mainly used for participating in DeFi and other activities on smart contract-enabled networks like Ethereum. OKX supports both buying via the centralized exchange and on-chain trading through the OKX Web3 Wallet. Before proceeding, be sure to confirm that the network your wBTC is on matches the network supported by OKX.

Prerequisites: First, figure out where your wBTC is now

Before you start, answer these three questions:

  • Where is your wBTC? Is it in another exchange account, or in your own on-chain wallet (e.g., MetaMask, OKX Web3 Wallet)?

  • What exactly do you mean by "deposit"? Do you mean "transferring in from another wallet," or "buying some with fiat"?

  • Confirm the network: wBTC doesn't exist on just one chain; it can circulate on Ethereum (ERC-20) and other networks. You must know which network your wBTC is on.

Step 1 (Scenario A): "Deposit" from another exchange or wallet to OKX

What to do: If you have wBTC elsewhere and want to move it into your OKX account, follow the "Deposit" process.

How to do it:

  1. Get your OKX deposit address: Log into the OKX App or website → Go to [Assets] or [Wallet] → Select [Deposit] → Search for "wBTC" or "Wrapped Bitcoin". The system will show supported networks (e.g., Ethereum). Choose the correct network for your wBTC, then copy the corresponding deposit address.

  2. Initiate the transfer from the source:

    • If it's in another exchange: Log into the source exchange → Withdraw → Choose wBTC → The network must match the one you selected on OKX → Paste the OKX deposit address → Submit.

    • If it's in your own Web3 wallet: Open your wallet (e.g., MetaMask, OKX Web3 Wallet) → Select "Send" → Paste the OKX deposit address → Make sure the currently connected network is the same as the one you selected on OKX → Confirm the gas fee → Submit the transaction.

  3. Confirm arrival: Check the [Assets] page on OKX to see if your wBTC balance has increased, or check your [Deposit History].

What counts as done: The page shows the transfer was successful, and your OKX account's wBTC balance has increased.

⚠️ Critical reminder: Depositing to the wrong network is the most common cause of asset loss. If you selected the Ethereum network, you can only transfer wBTC from an Ethereum address. The address and network must correspond one-to-one.

Step 1 (Scenario B): "Buy" wBTC directly with fiat

What to do: If you have fiat currency (like USD, EUR) and want to buy wBTC directly, follow the "Buy Crypto" process.

How to do it:

  1. Complete KYC: You'll need to finish identity verification (KYC) before purchasing.

  2. Enter the buy section: Log into OKX → Go to the [Buy Crypto] or [Buy Digital Assets] page.

  3. Choose a payment method: Depending on your region, you can select bank transfer, credit/debit card, C2C trading, or even PayPal. Bank transfers usually have lower fees but may take 1-3 business days. Card payments are typically instant.

  4. Complete the transaction: Enter the amount you want to buy, confirm, and you'll receive wBTC in your account.

What counts as done: Your OKX account's wBTC balance has increased, and you can trade or withdraw it.

Step 2: Verify key information and confirm correct operation

What to do: Whichever path you took, the last step is confirmation.

How to do it:

  • Check the network: If you made a deposit, go to [Deposit History] to see the status of this deposit, and confirm both the network and amount are correct.

  • Check the balance: Go to the [Assets] page, search for wBTC, and confirm that the available balance has increased.

Common reasons for failure

  1. Network mismatch: This is the most severe mistake. wBTC typically runs on the Ethereum network; sending it to the wrong network will almost certainly result in irreversible loss.

  2. KYC not completed: Some regions or payment methods require identity verification before you can buy.

  3. Insufficient gas fee: When transferring from a Web3 wallet, your wallet must hold the native gas token of the corresponding network (e.g., you need ETH to move wBTC on Ethereum).

  4. Below the minimum deposit/purchase amount: There are minimum limits for deposits and purchases, as shown on the OKX platform.

Risk alert

  • The cost of sending to the wrong network: Once you send wBTC to an address on the wrong network, the recovery process is extremely complex and not guaranteed. Triple-check the address and network before confirming any transfer.

  • wBTC contract address: wBTC may have different contract addresses on different networks. When swapping or adding the token in the OKX Web3 Wallet, always verify the correct contract address. The OKX-related information on this page is current as of July 22, 2026.

How to confirm the operation is completed

Open the OKX [Assets] page, search for wBTC, and once you see the balance has increased, you can trade, transfer, or withdraw. If it hasn't arrived after 30 minutes, use the TxID to check on the corresponding blockchain explorer. If the on-chain confirmation is successful but your OKX account doesn't show it, contact OKX customer service with the TxID for resolution.
