OKX On-Chain Deposit Guide: Transferring Crypto from Other Wallets

OKX on-chain deposits boil down to four steps: choose the correct coin and network, copy the deposit address, paste the address in your external wallet and send, then wait for the funds to arrive. The key is "network matching" at every stage – pick the wrong network and your assets may be lost forever. Below we break down each step with detailed instructions and tips.

Prerequisites: Confirm Your Account Status First

Before making an on-chain deposit, make sure:

  • Your OKX account has completed identity verification (KYC). Unverified accounts can still get a deposit address, but once the funds arrive, some features (like withdrawals and trading) will be restricted until verification is done.

  • The wallet you are using (e.g., MetaMask, Trust Wallet) holds the assets you want to transfer and has enough gas fees (network transaction fee).

Step 1: Go to the OKX Deposit Page and Select the Coin and Network

  1. Open the OKX app and tap [Assets] at the bottom right → [Deposit] → [Deposit crypto]

  2. Search for the coin you want to deposit (use USDT as an example) and select it

  3. Choose the deposit network – this is the most critical step. OKX will list all networks supported for that coin (e.g., USDT-ERC20, USDT-TRC20, USDT-OKTC, etc.)

Differences between networks: TRC20 (Tron network) has low fees and fast arrival, suitable for small amounts; ERC20 (Ethereum network) is more secure but gas fees are high, better for large amounts. There is no absolute right or wrong choice – the key is to match the network your external wallet uses for that coin.

What "done" looks like: You have selected the coin and network, and the deposit address is displayed.

Step 2: Copy the Deposit Address

  1. After selecting the network, the system automatically generates a unique deposit address (sometimes a Tag/Memo is also shown, required for coins like XRP and EOS)

  2. Tap to copy the address (and the Tag/Memo if one appears)

  3. Note: You can take a screenshot or paste it into a note, but never manually type the address – a single wrong character can lead to permanent loss of assets.

What "done" looks like: The deposit address (and Tag/Memo if needed) has been copied to your clipboard.

Step 3: Initiate the Transfer from the External Wallet

  1. Open your external wallet app or web interface and find the [Withdraw] or [Send] function

  2. Paste the deposit address you copied from OKX into the recipient address field

  3. Select the withdrawal network – it must be exactly the same as the network you chose on OKX. For example, if you selected USDT-TRC20 on OKX, the wallet must also use the TRC20 network for the withdrawal.

  4. Enter the amount to transfer (must exceed the minimum deposit amount for that coin), review the gas fee, and submit the transaction.

Coins that require a Tag/Memo: For XRP, EOS, XLM and similar, the OKX deposit page will show a "Deposit Memo/Tag" above the address, usually a string of numbers. Fill it in the corresponding field on your wallet's withdrawal page. Both the address and Tag must be correctly filled, otherwise the deposit will not be credited.

What "done" looks like: You have successfully sent the transaction from your external wallet and have an on-chain transaction hash (TxID).

Step 4: Wait for Block Confirmations and Crediting

  1. After sending the transaction, the funds won't arrive instantly. You need to wait for block confirmations on the blockchain. Confirmation time varies depending on network congestion, from a few minutes to perhaps tens of minutes.

  2. In the OKX app, go to [Assets] → [Deposit] → the clock icon at the top right [Deposit history], you can check the status of your deposit.

  3. When the status shows "Completed" or "Credited", the funds are in your OKX account.

What "done" looks like: The deposit record shows the funds have arrived and your asset balance has been updated.

Common Reasons for Deposit Failure and Risk Warnings

Failure reason 1: Network mismatch Same coin but different network means two completely independent chains. If the sender picks the wrong network, the assets may be unrecoverable. For example, sending USDT via ERC20 to an OKX TRC20 address – this mistake cannot be automatically fixed.

Failure reason 2: Wrong address or missing Tag Manually entering the address often leads to errors; or failing to include the Tag/Memo for coins like XRP and EOS will prevent the funds from being automatically credited.

Failure reason 3: Blockchain congestion or deposit channel suspension Delays in block synchronization or network congestion can slow down arrival; for some coins, a specific network's deposit function may be temporarily closed due to maintenance. In such cases assets are not lost – they will be processed automatically once the channel reopens.

Risk warning:

  • OKX does not charge any deposit fees, but the sender (your external wallet) will pay on-chain gas fees.

  • Deposit addresses are often reusable, but we strongly recommend obtaining a fresh address from the platform each time you deposit to avoid losses in case the platform changes your address.

After submitting the transaction, take note of the transaction hash (TxID). You can monitor confirmation progress in real time through OKX's deposit records. If the blockchain already shows the transaction but OKX hasn't credited it yet, it's usually a block synchronization delay – just wait patiently. If the deposit still hasn't arrived after 24 hours, contact customer support via the OKX app's [Help Center] and provide the TxID for assistance. Sign up using referral code 24U2795.
