Which Network Should You Choose for OKX Deposits? ERC20, TRC20, BEP20 Comparison
When depositing USDT on OKX, there is no single correct network. The golden rule is: the withdrawal network and the deposit network must be exactly the same. Choosing the wrong network leads to permanent loss of funds. Below is a comparison of ERC20, TRC20, and BEP20, plus a practical selection guide.

Step 1: Understand what a "network" really means and why you can't just pick any
USDT is not confined to a single blockchain. It is issued on multiple chains simultaneously — like the same currency running on different tracks. These chains are not connected to each other. An address that works on Ethereum (ERC20) is useless on Tron (TRC20).
OKX's help documentation uses a clear analogy: a car drives on a road, a train runs on a railway — your vehicle must match the track. Whatever network you choose, you must use the corresponding address to receive the coins.
Withdrawal network ≠ Deposit network → Permanent loss of assets. It cannot be retrieved, and support cannot manually reverse it.
Completion checkpoint: You understand that "network mismatch = lost funds" and no longer assume that "as long as the address is correct, it's fine."
Step 2: Get to know the three main USDT networks — ERC20, TRC20, BEP20
OKX currently supports multiple USDT networks, but these three are the most widely used.
① ERC20 (Ethereum network)
Characteristics: The oldest network, most mature DeFi ecosystem, high security
Address format: Starts with "0x", 40 characters
Fee: High, typically $5 to $35+, depending on network congestion
Arrival time: Slower, 5 to 15 minutes or longer
Suitable for: Large transfers, long-term holding, participating in Ethereum DeFi protocols
② TRC20 (Tron network)
Characteristics: Cheapest and fastest transfers — the mainstream choice for everyday transactions
Address format: Starts with "T", 34 characters
Fee: Low, usually $0.10 to $1.50
Arrival time: Fast, about 1 to 3 minutes
Suitable for: Small transfers, moving funds between exchanges, daily payments
③ BEP20 (BNB Smart Chain network)
Characteristics: Speed and cost fall between the two above; widely used in the Binance ecosystem
Address format: Starts with "0x" (same format as ERC20, but different network)
Fee: Very low, usually under $0.50
Arrival time: Fast, around 30 seconds to 3 minutes
Suitable for: Transfers between exchanges, trading in the BNB Chain ecosystem
Completion checkpoint: You can quickly rank the three networks by "fee" and "speed" (TRC20 and BEP20 are cheap and fast; ERC20 is expensive and slow).
Step 3: Choose based on your scenario — where you're sending from and how much
Case A — Withdrawing from another exchange to OKX This is the most common scenario. The choice depends on only one thing: which network is supported by the sending exchange. If the sending platform supports TRC20 and you want to save on fees, pick TRC20. If TRC20 isn't available, choose BEP20 or ERC20.
Suggested priority:
First choice: TRC20 — Low fees, fast arrival, the most universal option
Second choice: BEP20 — Also fast, even lower fees than TRC20, but slightly less widely supported
Fallback: ERC20 — Use only when the previous two are unavailable; expensive but the most secure
Case B — Sending from a personal wallet (like MetaMask) to OKX Match the network to the chain your tokens are on. MetaMask defaults to Ethereum. If your USDT is on Ethereum, select ERC20.
Case C — Large transfers (over $100,000) It's advisable to choose ERC20. Despite the cost, Ethereum's security and stability are the highest, making it ideal for large settlements.
Step 4: How to do it correctly in the OKX app
Open the OKX app, tap [Assets] → [Deposit] → [Deposit crypto]
Search for and select USDT
Choose the network: Based on your judgment from Step 3, select the corresponding network
The page will generate a deposit address (and a Tag/Memo for certain coins, if applicable) — copy the address and paste it on the withdrawal platform
Key confirmations:
The network selected on the withdrawal side must be exactly the same as the one you selected on OKX. Even a slight difference is unacceptable.
If the coin requires a Tag/Memo (e.g., XRP), both the address and the Tag must be filled in correctly. Otherwise, the funds will not arrive.
Completion checkpoint: You have generated a deposit address on OKX, selected the same network on the withdrawal platform, and submitted the transfer.

Common misconceptions and risk warnings
"The address format is the same, so the networks should be interchangeable." Incorrect. ERC20 and BEP20 addresses both start with "0x" and look nearly identical, but the networks are not compatible. Sending USDT via BEP20 to an ERC20 address will very likely result in lost funds.
"Let me pick anything now and sort it out later." There is no "sort it out later" option. If you choose wrong, the assets remain stuck on the wrong chain. OKX cannot process them. Recovery may require complex cross-chain tools, or it may be entirely impossible.
Always double-check the network name when withdrawing. Many exchange interfaces pre-select a default network. Manually verify it every time before clicking confirm.
Next step: Open the OKX app, go to the [Deposit] page, select USDT, and browse the list of supported networks. Then open your withdrawal platform (wallet or another exchange) to see which networks it supports — make sure both sides match before you proceed. It's recommended to test a small amount first (e.g., 10 USDT) and only transfer the full amount after it has arrived successfully.
