Missing OKX Deposit Tag? What to Do Before and After the Deposit Arrives

If you forgot to fill in or entered the wrong tag (Tag/Memo) when depositing, what you need to do depends on the stage you are at — whether the assets haven't been sent on-chain yet, or the transaction has already been confirmed. The steps for these two situations are completely different. First, confirm the current status before taking action.

What Happens When You Enter a Wrong or Missing Deposit Tag?

First, confirm which coin you are depositing. Not all coins require a tag; only those that use “Destination Tag/Memo” technology, like XRP, EOS, ATOM, XLM, require it. If you are depositing coins like BTC or ETH that don’t need a tag, the deposit page won’t even show a tag input field, so the issue isn’t a missing tag.

If you do need to fill in a tag (the page showed an input field) but you left it empty or entered it wrong, the assets will not automatically reach your OKX account, because the system cannot match this deposit to your specific account. However, the assets have already arrived at OKX’s on-chain wallet address, but are in a ‘pending claim’ status.

Case A: The Deposit Has Not Yet Been Confirmed on the Blockchain, or the Transaction Status Is Still ‘Pending’

If you initiated the deposit from another platform and just after submitting you realize the tag is wrong, first check the withdrawal status on that platform.

  • What to do: Go to the platform where you made the withdrawal (e.g., another exchange or wallet) and check the current status of this withdrawal.

  • Based on the withdrawal status:

    • If the status shows ‘Pending’ or ‘Under Review’, and there is a ‘Cancel Withdrawal’ button, cancel immediately, then initiate a new deposit with the correct tag.

    • If the status is already ‘Withdrawing’ or ‘Transferred Out’, it means the transaction has been broadcast to the blockchain and cannot be undone. In this case, follow the steps in Case B.

Case B: On-Chain Transaction Is Confirmed, but OKX Account Has Not Received the Funds

This is the most common scenario — the blockchain shows the transaction was successful, but your OKX account doesn’t show the deposit.

  • Check the on-chain status: Copy the transaction’s TxID (transaction hash) and look it up on the appropriate block explorer (e.g., XRP Scan, Etherscan). Confirm that the transaction status is ‘Success’ and the number of confirmations is sufficient.

  • Submit a support ticket: Go to the OKX Help Center and choose the category for ‘Deposit not credited’ or ‘Forgot to fill in tag’. When submitting, you’ll need to provide the following information:

    1. The coin you deposited and the network used

    2. Deposit amount

    3. TxID (transaction hash) of this deposit

    4. The wrong tag you entered (if you entered a wrong one), or state that you did not fill in a tag

    5. Your correct OKX deposit tag

  • What happens next: After you submit, you will receive a ticket number. According to OKX’s official guidance, these cases require manual intervention by engineers to assign the assets to your account.

Risk reminder: The tag (Tag/Memo) is a unique identifier used by exchanges to distinguish different users under the same deposit address. The address is like the ‘building number’, and the tag is like the ‘apartment number’. If you fill it incorrectly or forget it, it’s like sending something to the right building but can’t get into your room. Although OKX can help you recover it, this requires manual processing, during which the assets are unavailable, and repeated errors of this kind may affect your account risk rating.

Common Reasons for Deposit Failure

  • Can’t find the ‘tag’ input field when withdrawing from another platform: Some platforms hide the tag input field or use different names (Memo, Tag, Comment, Destination Tag). Carefully check all fields on the withdrawal page; it’s usually below the address input box.

  • Only filled in the address but not the tag: Some users think only one of ‘address’ and ‘tag’ needs to be filled. That’s wrong — for coins that require a tag, you must fill in both the address and the tag; neither can be missing.

  • Mistaking ‘memo’ for ‘tag’ and entering your own note: The tag must be the specific numeric string for that coin (usually 7–8 digits). Entering arbitrary text will cause the deposit to fail.

After You Complete These Steps

  • Verification: After submitting the ticket, pay attention to OKX notifications in the app and your registered email. Once the engineer processes it, the assets will be credited directly to your account, and you will receive a deposit notification.

  • Next step: If this deposit is a large amount and you need it urgently, we recommend submitting the ticket during business hours on weekdays — processing tends to be faster than on weekends or holidays. Do not submit duplicate tickets after you’ve already submitted one, as that can slow down the process.
