How to Deposit MATIC on OKX? Polygon Funding Tutorial

Currently, there are two main options for depositing MATIC on OKX – Polygon mainnet (the native network, highly recommended) and ERC20 (Ethereum network). Whichever network you choose, the MATIC in your wallet must be on that same network. Choosing the wrong one could result in unrecoverable funds.

1. Complete OKX Account KYC

What to do: Ensure your OKX account has completed identity verification.

How to do it:

1. Log in to the OKX app or website, go to [Profile] → [Identity Verification].

2. Follow the instructions to submit your ID documents and complete standard identity verification.

When it's done: The account shows "Verified" or "Standard Identity Verification" status.

2. Get a MATIC Deposit Address on OKX

What to do: Log in to OKX, go to the deposit page, and get a MATIC deposit address.

How to do it:

1. Log in to the OKX app or website, click [Assets] → [Deposit].

2. Search for "MATIC".

3. Select the network: OKX supports deposits via Polygon mainnet and ERC20. The deposit page will display the currently available network options; please refer to the actual display. If you're unsure, check the page directly.

   • Polygon mainnet: MATIC's native network. Deposit addresses start with "0x" (Polygon uses an EVM-compatible address format). Gas fees are low.

   • ERC20: Ethereum mainnet. Gas fees are higher, but some longtime users may still use this method.

4. Copy the generated deposit address.

When it's done: You have copied the OKX MATIC deposit address and confirmed the network name you selected.

Precondition: OKX KYC identity verification is completed.

OKX completed technical integration with Polygon mainnet and opened deposits in July 2021; both networks are currently usable. However, Polygon mainnet is recommended – lower operating costs and faster speed.

3. Initiate the Transfer from Your External Wallet

What to do: Send MATIC from your external wallet (e.g., MetaMask, imToken, TP Wallet) to your OKX deposit address.

How to do it:

1. Open your external wallet, find your MATIC asset, and click [Send] or [Transfer].

2. Paste the MATIC address you copied from OKX (starts with "0x") into the "Recipient address" field.

3. Critical step: In the "Select network" field, you must choose the network that exactly matches the one shown on the OKX deposit page:

   • If the OKX page shows "Polygon (Polygon mainnet)", your wallet should select "Polygon" or "Polygon Mainnet".

   • If the OKX page shows "ERC20", your wallet should select "Ethereum Mainnet".

4. Make sure your wallet has enough gas fees:

   • Polygon mainnet: requires MATIC as gas.

   • ERC20: requires ETH as gas.

5. Submit the transaction.

When it's done: The transaction is submitted; the wallet shows "Transaction broadcast" or "Pending".

Common reasons for failure:

• Wrong network selection: OKX selected Polygon mainnet but the wallet used ERC20 – funds are sent to Ethereum and won't arrive.

• Insufficient gas fees: The wallet lacks the network's gas token (MATIC or ETH), and the transaction gets stuck.

• Incomplete address copy: The address starts with "0x"; after pasting, it's recommended to double-check the first few and last few characters.

Risk reminder:

• Network mismatch = potential loss of funds: OKX supports two networks, but if you select a network that does not match the actual network where your wallet balance resides, the funds will not arrive automatically; you would need to go through the asset recovery process.

• Deposits suspended during network upgrades/maintenance: OKX will pause deposit services during Polygon network upgrades. Before proceeding, confirm there is no maintenance notice on the deposit page.

• Test with a small amount first: For first-time operations, it is advisable to send a small test amount and transfer the remainder only after it arrives successfully.

4. Confirm Arrival

What to do: Wait for blockchain confirmations and check your OKX account balance.

How to do it:

1. Use the TxID to check the transaction status on the corresponding block explorer:

   • Polygon mainnet: use PolygonScan (polygonscan.com)

   • ERC20: use Etherscan (etherscan.io)

2. Polygon network confirmations usually complete within a few minutes.

3. Log in to OKX, go to [Assets] → [Funding Account] or [Spot Account], and check whether the MATIC balance has increased.

When it's done: The MATIC balance in your OKX spot account has been updated.

How to confirm you did everything correctly?

Enter the TxID in the block explorer and confirm the transaction status is "Success". Then log in to OKX and see the MATIC balance increase on the [Assets] page. If it hasn't arrived after a long time, check whether the network you selected during deposit exactly matches the network used by your wallet – this is the most common reason MATIC deposits get stuck.
