Do I Need Both Wallet Address and Memo When Depositing on OKX?
The rule is simple: For coins that require a Memo, you must fill in both the address and the Memo; missing either will fail. For coins that don't need a Memo, just the address is enough. The only way to know is to check the OKX deposit page – if the system shows a Memo input box, it's mandatory; if not, you can skip it.
Step 1: Confirm whether your coin requires a Memo
Open the OKX app or website, go to Assets → Deposit, search the coin you want to deposit, and select the deposit network.
Situation A: The page shows a notice "Tag/Memo is required" → You must provide both the address and the Memo. Coins that typically require a Memo include XRP, XLM, ATOM, etc. The deposit page will display a string of numbers (usually 7–8 digits); that is your unique Memo.
Situation B: No Memo/Tag prompt appears → No Memo needed. Just copy the deposit address and paste it on the sending platform.
Completion check: You can clearly state whether your coin "needs a Memo" or "doesn't need a Memo".
Prerequisite: KYC identity verification is complete and the OKX deposit function is available.
Step 2: When Memo is required, fill in both address and Memo
If the page displays a Memo/Tag, do the following:
Copy the deposit address
Copy the Memo/Tag (the number string)
On the withdrawal page of the sending platform, paste them into the "Deposit Address" and "Memo/Tag" fields respectively
Completion check: Both fields on the sending platform are filled in, and the information matches exactly what OKX shows.
Common mistake: Only the address is copied, and the Memo field is left blank or filled incorrectly. The system will not auto-fill it; a wrong or missing Memo will cause assets to fail to arrive automatically.
Some platforms call Memo "Tag" or "Remark". The name differs but it refers to the same thing. Just find the matching field and paste the numbers there.
Step 3: When Memo is not needed, fill in only the address
If the OKX deposit page shows no Memo prompt, you only need the address.
How to do it: Copy the address on OKX, then paste it into the withdrawal address field on the sending platform. If the other platform asks for a Memo/Tag anyway, there is likely a mismatch in the network or coin you selected; go back to Step 1 and double-check.
Completion check: The sending platform only used the address, with no extra pop-up demanding a Memo.
Step 4: Verify all details before confirming the transaction
Regardless of whether Memo is needed, do these three checks before submitting:
The coin name matches
The network name is identical (both sides show exactly the same network)
If there is a Memo, make sure every digit matches the OKX page exactly
Completion check: All three checks pass before you submit.
Risk reminder:
Wrong or missing Memo: Assets will enter the platform's common pool and cannot be automatically credited to your account. Recovery is possible through customer support, but the process is complicated and time-consuming.
Wrong network: This is even more serious than a Memo mistake; assets may be lost permanently.
How to confirm after doing these steps
After submitting the transfer, open OKX Assets → Deposit History and check the status of this transaction. If the status is "Pending" or "Processing", it means both the address and Memo (if required) were filled correctly; just wait for blockchain confirmations.
If the deposit hasn't arrived after more than 2 hours, check whether the deposit history shows an error like "Memo missing" or "Wrong Tag". If so, contact OKX customer support immediately and provide the correct Memo, the transaction hash (TxID), and the deposit amount. An engineer will follow up.
