How to Use OKX Demo Trading? Beginner Practice Tutorial

Demo trading essentially provides a practice environment with an interface identical to the live market. The funds are virtual, and profits or losses do not affect your real account, but the trading rules and order process are exactly the same as the live market.
1. Where to Access Demo Trading
App:Open the OKX App, tap the top-left [Personal Center] icon on the homepage, then select [Demo Trading] on the personal center page. After entering, a "Demo Trading" badge will appear at the top to distinguish it from live trading.
Web:Log in to the OKX website, click [Trade] in the top navigation bar, and select [Demo Trading] from the dropdown menu. The top-left corner of the page will display a [Demo Trading] badge to confirm you are in the demo environment.
2. What's in the Demo Account
Upon entering demo trading, you will receive an initial amount of virtual funds, including a certain quantity of mainstream coins such as BTC, ETH, USDT, and OKB. These funds are not real and can only be used for practice.

The functionality in the demo environment is largely the same as the live market, but trading pairs are mainly limited to mainstream coins and some popular pairs; not all coins are supported for demo trading.
3. Placing Your First Demo Trade
On the demo trading page, tap the [Trade] button at the bottom to enter the order placement interface.
Example for Spot Trading:
Select a trading pair (e.g., BTC/USDT) at the top of the trading page
Choose an order type (limit order or market order)
Enter price and quantity
Tap Buy or Sell
Example for Perpetual Futures (BTCUSDT):
On the [Trade] page, tap the top-left pair box to switch to [Perpetual] → [USDT Contracts] → select BTCUSDT Perpetual
Select [Buy Long] or [Sell Short] to start practicing
After a trade is executed, you can check balance changes and positions on the assets page. The demo account records all order details for review and analysis.
4. Resetting Demo Assets
If virtual funds run out or you want to start over, you can reset demo assets to restore the balance to its initial state.
App:On the demo trading page, tap [Total Asset Valuation] → [Reset]
Web:Click [Asset Management] in the top-right corner → [Demo Trading] → [My Assets] → Click the [...] next to the coin → [Reset]
Note: All open orders must be canceled and all positions closed before resetting; otherwise, the operation cannot proceed.
There is no limit on the number of resets, and it does not affect your live account. You can repeatedly practice different trading strategies.

5. Exiting Demo Trading
After practice, tap [Exit] or [Return to Live] in the top-right corner to switch back to the live trading environment. The demo and live accounts are completely independent; operations and funds in the demo account do not affect the live account.
Are demo prices the same as live prices?
Demo trading market data typically comes from the live market but may have a slight delay (about 1-2 seconds). The general price direction is synchronized, but it is not recommended to make live trading decisions based on instant demo prices. The value of demo trading lies in familiarizing yourself with operations and testing strategies, not predicting market movements.
Do I need to register a separate account for demo trading?
No, simply log in with your OKX account and switch to demo mode. The demo trading feature is available to all logged-in users.
Does demo trading support API trading?
Yes. In demo trading mode, go to the personal center to create a dedicated API Key for the demo account to test quantitative strategies.
