If your OKB transfer to X Layer fails, either the wrong network is selected or your wallet does not have enough X Layer mainnet tokens for gas. X Layer is OKB's native network, and OKB itself is the gas token on this chain. What you are actually doing is sending OKB on X Layer and paying the transaction fee in OKB. If your account does not have enough OKB set aside for gas, or the chosen network is wrong, the transaction will get stuck.

Step 1: Verify X Layer mainnet configuration

Make sure your wallet is correctly connected to X Layer mainnet, not Ethereum mainnet or another EVM chain. Open your Web3 wallet and switch to the X Layer network. If the network is not listed, add it manually. The network details are:

  • Network name: X Layer Mainnet

  • RPC URL: Get the latest address from the official OKX documentation

  • Chain ID: 196

  • Symbol: OKB

  • Block explorer: Get from the official OKX documentation

Completion check: The current network shown in the top-right corner of the wallet page is "X Layer", not "Ethereum" or "BSC".

Step 2: Check your available OKB balance in the wallet

Confirm that your wallet balance covers both the transfer amount and the reserved gas fee. View your OKB balance in the X Layer wallet. When initiating the transfer, make sure the "estimated total deduction" does not exceed the total balance. If a transaction fails, the spent network fee is usually not refunded. Completion check: Transfer amount + estimated gas < total OKB balance in the account.

Case A: "Insufficient balance" when sending OKB

This usually means you have not set aside any OKB for gas. For example, you want to send 100 OKB, but your account holds exactly 100 OKB with no extra for the fee. The system will show an error. You need to reduce the transfer amount and keep around 0.001–0.005 OKB as a gas buffer.

Case B: Failed transfer of other tokens (e.g., USDT) to X Layer

If you are transferring USDT on the X Layer network, your wallet must have OKB to pay the network fee. This is a hard requirement. You need to deposit a small amount of OKB as gas first, then initiate the USDT transfer.

Risk Reminder: When bridging OKB with a cross-chain bridge, do not select the wrong direction. X Layer also supports bridging OKB from other networks (like Ethereum) through the official bridge. Note that this operation requires two layers of gas fees: the gas on the source chain (e.g., ETH) and OKB on the target chain (X Layer). If you prepared the fee on only one side, the cross-chain transfer will also fail.

Common reasons for failure

Many people treat OKB like an exchange asset and assume transfers are free. But X Layer is a decentralized blockchain network where every transaction consumes OKB as gas. Another common mistake is confusing X Layer (mainnet) with the X1 testnet—testnet requires bridging test tokens from the Sepolia testnet via the bridge or claiming from a faucet. Real mainnet OKB cannot be used on testnet.
