Can You Top Up Insufficient Gas on BNB Chain Directly from Binance?
Being short on on-chain gas and having BNB in your Binance account are two different things — you cannot directly inject gas from your Binance trading account into a pending on-chain transaction. However, the Binance Web3 Wallet provides a special channel that lets you cover gas fees on BNB Smart Chain using the BNB held in your spot account.

These two approaches are fundamentally different. Let's break them down.
Prerequisite: Understand which situation you are in
This question usually comes up in two ways, each requiring a completely different solution:
Scenario A: You are making an on-chain transaction (transfer, swap, contract interaction) inside the Binance Web3 Wallet and you get an error saying your BNB balance is too low.
Scenario B: You are using an external wallet (like MetaMask or Trust Wallet) and you don't have enough BNB to cover gas.
Figure out which scenario applies to you, then follow the corresponding instructions below.
Step 1 (Scenario A): Use the "Pay Gas with Spot Account" feature in Binance Wallet
What to do: When initiating an on-chain transaction inside the Binance Web3 Wallet, choose to pay for gas with BNB from your exchange spot account.
How to do it:
Start a transaction on BNB Smart Chain (BSC) inside your Binance Web3 Wallet (a transfer, swap, etc.).
On the signature confirmation page, find the option "Account to pay gas" or something similar.
Select "Binance Spot & Funding Account".
Make sure your spot account holds more than 0.01 BNB.
How to know it's done: You sign the transaction and it successfully goes on-chain; the gas fee is deducted from your Binance spot account, not from your Web3 Wallet balance.
⚠️ This feature only works on BNB Smart Chain (BSC), Ethereum and opBNB. It is not available on all chains. Other chains (such as Solana or TRON) do not offer this option.
Step 2 (Scenario A alternative): Withdraw BNB from Binance to your Web3 Wallet first
What to do: If the "Pay Gas with Spot Account" feature from Scenario A is unavailable (for example, you are using a non-BSC chain, or you simply prefer not to use it), you need to withdraw BNB from the exchange to your wallet first.
How to do it:
Copy your BSC address inside the Binance Web3 Wallet.
Initiate a BNB withdrawal from your Binance trading account.
You must select the BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20) network, then paste the address you just copied.
Confirm the amount (at least enough to cover several transactions' worth of gas) and submit the withdrawal.
How to know it's done: BNB arrives in your Web3 Wallet, and the balance is now sufficient to cover the gas fee for your next on-chain transaction.
Step 3 (Scenario B): Withdraw BNB from Binance to an external wallet
What to do: You are short on gas in an external wallet (like MetaMask). The only solution is to withdraw BNB from Binance to that wallet's address.
How to do it:
Copy your BSC address from your external wallet.
Log in to Binance → 【Wallet】→ 【Spot】→ 【Withdraw】.
Select BNB, paste the address, and choose the BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20) network.
Enter the amount, complete the security verification and submit.
How to know it's done: Your external wallet's BNB balance is sufficient to cover gas, and you can now submit the on-chain transaction successfully.
Step 4: Confirm the top-up and try your transaction again
What to do: Whichever path you took, once the gas token has been topped up, resubmit the previously failed transaction.
How to do it:
If you used the "Pay Gas with Spot Account" option, simply sign again — gas will be deducted from your spot account.
If you withdrew BNB, wait for the required number of on-chain confirmations (usually 1–2 minutes) and try again once your wallet balance has updated.
How to know it's done: The transaction goes on-chain without any gas shortage error.
Common reasons for failure
Wrong network selected: Withdrawing BNB to BNB Beacon Chain (BEP-2) instead of BNB Smart Chain (BEP-20) means the external wallet won't receive the funds and they may be lost. Binance is phasing out the BEP-2 network; in most cases you should select BSC.
BNB balance too low for gas: The withdrawal transaction itself requires gas. If you only have 0.001 BNB but the gas costs 0.002 BNB, you won't be able to send this transaction at all.
The 'Pay Gas with Spot Account' feature only supports certain chains: If you're short on SOL on Solana, you cannot pay with BNB from your spot account.
Risk reminders
Selecting the wrong network when withdrawing is one of the most common causes of fund loss in crypto. Address and network must match exactly. BSC and ERC-20 addresses share the same format, but if you send funds on the wrong network they will be lost.
Withdrawing BNB from Binance incurs a withdrawal fee (charged by the platform), not just the on-chain gas fee. Check the total cost before withdrawing.

How to verify that you have successfully topped up gas
If you used the "Pay Gas with Spot Account" option: Resubmit and sign the transaction. If it goes on-chain successfully, the configuration was correct. You can check your Binance 【Funding Account】 to see that the BNB balance decreased by the exact gas amount.
If you withdrew BNB: You can see that the BNB balance in your wallet has increased and now covers the gas fee. Enter your address on a blockchain explorer like BscScan to confirm that the BNB has arrived.
If your transaction still fails after topping up BNB, check whether the gas price is set too low — during network congestion, a low gas price can cause miners to ignore your transaction. You can adjust the gas fee setting in your wallet to "Recommended" or "Standard" and try again.
