What documents are accepted as proof of address on Binance?
Binance accepts three main types of proof of address: utility bills, statements issued by banks or financial institutions, and official letters from government authorities. Each document must contain your full name, residential address, date of issue, and the details of the issuing institution.
Step 1: Understand the core requirements for proof of address documents
What to do: Before preparing your document, make sure you understand the common conditions that all proof of address documents must meet.
How to do it, check each of the following mandatory requirements:
Name consistency: The name on the document must exactly match the name on the identity document (such as ID card) you submitted to Binance, and must match the name of the Binance account holder.
Address consistency: The residential address on the document must exactly match the address you entered when filling in your Binance account details.
Validity period: For users in Mainland China, the document is usually valid for 6 months; for regions including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Italy, Poland, Spain, and Sweden, it is valid for 3 months; for regions such as Bahrain and Dubai, it is valid for 2 months.
Complete information: The document must clearly show your name, residential address, date of issue, issuing institution, and the institution's logo or contact details.
P.O. Boxes not accepted: You must provide proof of a physical residential address.
When you are done: You have identified the four core elements (name, address, date, issuing authority) that the document must contain and confirmed the validity period requirement for your region.
Step 2: Check the list of acceptable document types
What to do: Compare the documents you currently have against the list to confirm whether they fall into an acceptable type.
How to do it, refer to the three acceptable categories below:
Utility bills
Electricity, water, gas, sewerage and other utility bills
Internet service provider account statements
Landline telephone or TV communication package bills (Note: mobile phone bills are generally not accepted, except in certain regions)
Bank and financial institution documents
Bank statements or credit card statements
Investment account statements
Stamped and/or signed bank reference letters or address confirmation letters
Mortgage statements
Government and official authority documents
Official correspondence issued by the government
Government tenancy agreement or lease registration certificate (valid for 1 year)
Residence certificate issued by the local government
Government-issued national ID / permanent residence permit containing residential address (cannot be the same document used for identity verification)
Other acceptable documents
Homeowners' association or building management statements
Home insurance policy or certificate
University dormitory or student housing tenancy agreement
Letter from the university confirming the student's enrolment and residential address
When you are done: You have found one or more document types from the list that you already have and that meet the requirements.
Step 3: Exclude unacceptable document types
What to do: Rule out common document types that are often rejected to avoid wasting effort.
How to do it, the following documents cannot be used as proof of address:
Mobile phone bills (except in a few jurisdictions)
Payslips or employment contracts
Retail store credit card bills
Transaction receipts (even if they show a delivery/billing address)
Bank correspondence or marketing materials, fee schedules
Streaming service bills
Medical bills
Insurance documents (except home insurance)
Documents mailed to a P.O. Box
When you are done: You have confirmed that the document you are preparing is not on the unacceptable list above.
Step 4: Prepare and submit the document according to the format requirements
What to do: Prepare the document as required and upload it to the Binance platform.
How to do it:
File format: PDF format is preferred; JPG, JPEG, and PNG formats are also supported.
File source: You can use a photo of the original document, a colour scan, or a PDF electronic version. If using a screenshot, the first page must be clearly visible, all data readable, and personal information clearly shown. Photocopies or black-and-white copies are not accepted.
Photo requirements: Use portrait mode to scan, making sure all corners of the document are within the frame and the information is legible. Avoid blur, reflections, or cropping.
Submission portal: Log in to Binance, go to the [Identity Verification] page, and upload the document in the proof of address section.
When you are done: The document is successfully uploaded and the page enters the review stage.
Risk reminders
The address on the document must be exactly the same as the residential address you filled in – any discrepancy will result in immediate rejection.
Proof of address verification usually takes 1–2 business days. Please wait patiently for the result notification; there is no need to contact customer service to request a faster review.
Next steps: First confirm the validity period requirement for proof of address in your region (usually 6 months for Mainland China), then refer to the list of acceptable documents and choose the most convenient one you have on hand (such as a bank statement or electricity bill). Check that the name and address match your Binance account information, confirm it meets the validity period requirement, and then upload it.
