What Documents Are Required for a Binance Deposit Risk Review?
If your deposit has been stopped by a risk review, the documents you need to submit depend on whether the trigger is a Source of Funds (SOF) verification or an Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) review. The former requires you to prove where this particular deposit came from, while the latter additionally asks you to explain how your total wealth was accumulated and to declare whether you are a politically exposed person. Simply prepare the specific documents according to the fund category.
1. First, Confirm Your Review Type
What to do: Log in to Binance and check which type of verification the notification is asking you to complete.
How to do it:
Log in to the Binance app or website and go to [Wallet] → [Verification Center] or check system notifications.
Common review types:
Source of Funds (SOF): Asks about the origin of the specific fiat or cryptocurrency deposited into your Binance account, such as salary, investment returns, proceeds from a property sale, loans, etc. Source of Funds ≠ income; income is only one type of source of funds, while inheritance, insurance payouts, etc. also count.
Source of Wealth (SOW): Asks how your total assets were accumulated, not limited to a single deposit but your overall "wealth story," such as a combination of career, business investments, inheritance, etc.
Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD): On top of SOF/SOW, further verifies whether you are a Politically Exposed Person (PEP). This is a stricter compliance process.
When is it considered done: When you have clearly identified whether you received an SOF inquiry, SOW inquiry, or an EDD process.
If the review type is EDD, in addition to preparing documents on the source of funds/wealth, you also need to fill out a Politically Exposed Person (PEP) declaration — stating whether you or your immediate family members/close associates hold or have held prominent public positions.
2. Prepare Corresponding Documents Based on Fund Category
What to do: Prepare the supporting documents according to the actual source of your funds. The documents must comply with the following "golden rules":
Issued in your name: The name on the document must match the name on your Binance account.
Clearly legible: 300 DPI resolution is recommended, all four corners fully visible, do not crop or apply filters.
Unedited: Only PDF, JPG, PNG formats are accepted; Excel or Word files will be rejected.
Recently issued: Payslips, bank statements must cover the last 3 months.
Format requirements: Screenshots must show the entire page, including URL links, name, and date.
How to do it:
| Source of Funds / Wealth | Required Documents |
|---|---|
| Employment Income (including self-employment) | Payslips for the last 3 months; or a signed employment confirmation letter (showing employee information and salary details); or tax statements showing salary income; or bank statements from the last 3 months showing salary deposits. |
| Investment Income (including crypto investments) | Crypto account statements (showing user identity, portfolio, balance, and trading activity); or wallet screenshots (showing holdings and identity information); or bank statements showing proceeds from crypto sales. |
| Asset Sale (e.g., property sale) | Sales or settlement contract (showing asset type, price, parties involved, and date), accompanied by bank statements showing the receipt of sales proceeds; or tax statements declaring the profit from the sale. |
| Inheritance or Donation | Certified copy of the will by a lawyer or accountant; or a gift declaration signed by the donor (within the last 3 months), accompanied by bank statements showing the transfer. |
| Loan | Loan agreement issued by a financial institution (showing loan amount and details); or bank statements showing the loan disbursement within the last 3 months. |
| Business Income | Latest balance sheet or financial statements (signed by an accountant); or tax statements showing income. |
| Social Welfare | Pension or social welfare statements from the government/employer/insurance institution for the last 3 months; or bank statements showing the deposits. |
When is it considered done: When you have prepared proof documents that match the corresponding category and are dated within the last 3 months, ready to upload at any time.
Common reasons for failure:
Blurry or incomplete documents: Screenshot only captures half, key information is covered or affected by glare.
Document does not match declaration: Declared source of funds is "salary," but uploaded a screenshot of a stock account.
Document is not recent: Bank statements are from 6 months ago; Binance usually requires the last 3 months.
Name mismatch: The name on the bank account does not exactly match the KYC name on Binance.
Risk warning:
Truthful declaration is the bottom line: SOF/SOW verification is a necessary process for Binance to fulfill Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter-Terrorism Financing (CFT) regulatory requirements. Providing false information may lead to account restrictions or even closure.
Material authenticity is verifiable: Binance will cross-check all documents you submit. If the same transaction involves multiple sources, you must submit all related materials together.
Processing time varies: After submission, feedback is usually given within 3-5 working days. If the material is not up to standard, it will be returned with a request for supplementation.
3. Submit Supplementary Materials and Video Verification as Required
What to do: If Binance support asks you to provide video proof, you need to record and submit it according to the requirements.
How to do it:
Recording requirements: The video must be recorded continuously, without any editing or clipping. Screen recording software is not accepted.
Visual content: The beginning or end of the video must clearly show your facial features; display an ID document containing your personal information (recommended to show it at the beginning of the video).
Login display: Log in to the external platform or wallet account from which you deposited to Binance, showing the complete login operation (no need to show the password).
Transaction record: Open the transaction history of that account, find the fund transfer going to Binance, and clearly show the date, asset, amount, address, and transaction hash. For crypto deposits, click the TxID to display the transaction details in a blockchain explorer.
Format: Save as .mp4, .mov, or .rmvb.
When is it considered done: When you have submitted the complete video and supplementary materials as required, and the page shows "Submitted."
Key point for video verification: Screenshots of deposit confirmation emails are not accepted. It must be a real screen recording showing the withdrawal record from the originating platform/wallet. All information must be completed in a single video; do not split similar materials into two videos.
How to confirm you have handled it correctly?
After submitting documents, check the status in [Wallet] → [Verification Center] or [Application Records]. If the status is "Approved," the risk review is cleared and the deposit will continue to be credited. If it shows "Additional documents required," just resubmit based on the feedback prompts. Reviews are usually completed within 3-5 working days. If there is no progress for over a week, you can submit a ticket through Binance customer support to inquire.
