Whether X Drops Club's Trade to Earn is worth joining depends on whether your trading volume can cover costs on both sides: trading fees and opportunity costs. The reward formula itself is simple, but what really determines how much you get is other participants' trading volume, not the size of the prize pool. The more you trade, the more others may trade too, and your share could actually get diluted.

How Rewards Are Calculated
Trade to Earn daily rewards are distributed based on your eligible trading volume over the past 7 days as a proportion of all participants' total volume.
The formula is: Daily individual reward = (Your eligible trading volume ÷ Sum of all participants' eligible trading volume) × Total daily reward pool
VIP users enjoy a 2x multiplier on their eligible trading volume, while regular users get 1x. This means VIPs trading with the same capital carry twice the weight in the denominator compared to regular users.
There's an easily overlooked detail: your eligible trading volume is calculated on a rolling 7-day basis, not just for the current day. Each day's snapshot adds up trading volume from the past 7 full calendar days plus the current day up to the snapshot time. If you concentrate your trading volume on just one day, that volume will still count in the denominator for the following 6 days, but without new trades to maintain your share, your rewards will drop quickly.
Which Trades Don't Count
This section directly determines whether your cost calculation is accurate. According to OKX's official terms, the following trades do not count toward eligible trading volume:
Zero-fee or negative-fee trades. If you use zero-fee trading pairs (such as some Advanced Trade zero-fee pairs), this volume doesn't count at all.
1:1 buys/sells or conversions, such as buying USDG with USD.
Trades between any two stablecoins or fiat currencies, such as USDT/SGD, USDC/USDG, USDC/EUR.
Zero-markup DEX or BSC pairs.
This means you can't use the "swap USDT to USDC and back" method to generate volume at low cost. The system explicitly excludes these.
Before Calculating Costs, Check Your Eligibility
X Drops Club is not visible to all OKX users. Different regional entities have different access rules:
OKX SG (Singapore entity): Only available to users who have obtained Accredited Investor status, and account balance must be maintained at a minimum of $1,000. Accredited Investor status itself has a threshold — this is not something regular users can directly participate in.
US users: Limited to eligible users residing in the United States (excluding New York, Texas, American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, and the US Virgin Islands).
EEA (European Economic Area): Open to EEA residents, but requires identity verification and maintaining X Drops Club membership.
If you open the OKX App and don't see the X Drops Club entry, or the event page shows as unavailable, it's likely that your region's entity doesn't support it, or your account tier isn't high enough.
How to Calculate Fees vs. Rewards
Trade to Earn rewards come from a fixed prize pool funded by project sponsors. The total prize pool is set at the start of the event and does not increase as participant trading volume grows. Your trading volume pushes up the denominator, but the numerator (prize pool) stays the same.
Let's do the math from a regular user's perspective:
OKX regular tier users pay 0.10% in spot taker fees and 0.08% in maker fees (subject to your account's actual rate). If you do $10,000 in eligible spot trading during the event, fees alone would be $8 to $10.
Your reward depends on the total trading volume of all participants during the same period. If the event has 1,000 participants, each trading an average of $5,000, the total denominator is $5 million, and you account for 0.2%. If the daily prize pool is worth $5,000, you'd receive $10 that day.
This example is illustrative — actual prize pools and participant numbers vary by event. But the logic is: you can't control the denominator, only your own trading volume. If the prize pool isn't large enough relative to the number of participants, your rewards may just barely cover fees, or not even.
The VIP advantage is more obvious here. The 2x multiplier means VIPs can achieve the same weight as regular users with half the trading volume, and VIPs typically have lower fee rates. If you're not a VIP, your cost efficiency in Trade to Earn is naturally lower than VIP users.
When Is It Worth Participating?
Worth participating: You already have a trading plan, the trading pairs are within the event scope, and you're not deliberately trading just to generate volume. Rewards are a bonus that doesn't add to your planned costs.
Not worth participating: You're deliberately increasing trading frequency to earn rewards, especially using high-fee taker orders to buy and sell quickly. Volume-chasing fees are certain expenses, while rewards are uncertain income — and the denominator is determined by other participants.
If your goal is "volume farming," note this: OKX's risk control terms explicitly prohibit volume manipulation, wash trading, and self-dealing. Violations may result in disqualification. Using two accounts to trade against each other or frequently buying and selling the same asset to create volume carries the risk of being detected and penalized by risk control.

After Joining, Where to Check Rewards
In the OKX App, find the X Drops Club entry under [Gifts & Rewards] or [More]. Once on the event page, you can see your estimated rewards and distribution records.
Rewards are automatically credited to your funding account after daily calculation and risk control review — no manual claiming needed. If your balance drops below the minimum threshold during the event (such as $1,000), rewards will be paused and automatically resume after you top up, with no need to rejoin.
A practical way to decide: After joining the event, don't rush to trade. Observe the X Drops page for 1 to 2 days and see how your estimated rewards change without any trading on your part. If the estimated rewards are already very small, it means there are many participants or the prize pool is limited — the marginal return from increasing your trading volume may not be worth the fees.
