Using a Screen Reader on OKX: What to Check Before Depositing?

When using a screen reader to deposit on OKX, the key check before depositing is not "whether you can hear the button," but whether the on-chain deposit information is read out completely, accurately, and has been verified by you. OKX has an official accessibility statement that promises to improve website accessibility with WCAG 2.2 as the goal. But this does not mean every deposit step already has a polished screen reader experience. You need to confirm three things yourself: whether the network selection is announced correctly, whether the address and Tag/Memo are read out in full, and whether the deposit account option (Funding Account / Trading Account) is identifiable.

First Confirm Your Account Status and Deposit Eligibility

Before using the screen reader, first rule out hard blocks at the account level. OKX rules state that only accounts that have completed identity verification can deposit. If the account is frozen or restricted, the deposit function may be limited, and the page will show a corresponding notice. When using a screen reader to browse the deposit page, if you hear a restriction notice instead of the normal coin selection screen, you need to deal with the account status first, not keep trying to deposit.

There are two deposit entry points: selecting "Deposit" from the home page, or going to "Assets" and then selecting "Deposit". For screen reader users, the safer approach is to enter from "Assets", because the home page has high element density and lots of dynamic content. The screen reader focus can easily be pulled away by market data or promotional slots. The path from the Assets page is more linear, and the focus order is relatively predictable.

Selecting Coin and Network: The Step Where Screen Readers Most Often Go Wrong

OKX's deposit flow requires you to select the coin first, then the deposit network. Network selection is the highest-risk part of screen reader operation, for two reasons.

First, the same coin often has multiple network options. If the screen reader only announces the coin name and not the full network name, you may hear a string of similar options under "USDT" and cannot tell which is ERC20, which is TRC20, or which is another chain. OKX officially warns: the coin and network must be exactly the same on both OKX and the sending platform, otherwise the assets will be lost.

Second, the screen reader label for the network option may be cut off or simplified. If the focus lands on a network option and the screen reader only says "Network 1", "Network 2", or a string of abbreviations, do not guess based on position or order. A safer approach is: after selecting a network, check the deposit address automatically generated on the page, and use the address characteristics for a second confirmation—for example, addresses on some networks have a fixed prefix. But this step itself also depends on whether the screen reader can read out the full address string.

Checking Address and Tag/Memo: Do Not Listen Only Once

After the deposit details are generated, the page shows the deposit address and a QR code. If the coin requires a Tag/Memo (OKX gives XRP as an example), the page shows an extra field, and you need to copy both the address and the Tag/Memo. The practical problem screen reader users face at this step is: the address is a long string of letters and numbers, and when the screen reader reads it character by character, it is easy to mishear or miss characters.

My judgment is: do not complete copying and checking based on the screen reader reading the address only once. A more reliable approach is to use the "Copy" function, paste the address somewhere you can check character by character (such as a local text editor), and then use the screen reader's character-by-character navigation to check the first and last several characters. OKX's official deposit instructions themselves suggest checking the address, but that is aimed at all users. For screen reader users, this action is even more necessary, because auditory checking of a long string is less reliable than visual comparison.

The same applies to Tag/Memo. If the page shows a Tag/Memo field, make sure it is copied together with the address or recorded separately. Missing the Tag/Memo will cause the deposit not to be credited, even if the address is correct.

Choosing the Deposit Account: Funding Account or Trading Account

The OKX deposit page allows you to choose whether to deposit into the Funding Account or the Trading Account. The impact of this option on screen reader users is: if you do not realize this is a selectable option, the screen reader will announce the currently selected account type by default, and you may simply skip over it. The difference between depositing into the Funding Account and the Trading Account is whether you need to manually transfer funds later before trading. If you plan to trade immediately after depositing, choosing the Trading Account saves a transfer step. If you are just storing funds, the Funding Account is fine. When using a screen reader, slow down on the "Deposit Account" field and confirm that the screen reader announces the account type you want before continuing.

A Boundary Worth Noting

OKX's accessibility statement was published in March 2025 and promises to target WCAG 2.2. But WCAG compliance is an ongoing process. The statement itself does not guarantee that every dynamic component on the deposit page—such as the network dropdown list or the refreshed area after address generation—already has complete screen reader semantics. If during operation you find that the screen reader only says "button" without a readable label, or that the focus order suddenly jumps after the page generates the address, this is not your operation problem. It is an accessibility gap in the current interface. In that case, a more practical approach is to switch to the web version if the app's screen reader experience is poor, or use another device's visual interface to complete address copying and network checking, then return to the screen reader device for the following steps. The first step of depositing is to make sure assets arrive safely, not to prove that every step can be done independently with a screen reader.
