After closing your OKX account, you can re-register using the same phone number, email, and identity information. The rules depend on your verification status before account deletion, which determines the waiting time and steps you need to take.
Step 1: Check Account Status to Decide Your Path
First, log into the OKX account you want to close. Go to the "Account & Security" page and check the identity verification status. There are different scenarios:
Situation A: Account completed identity verification (KYC) – After deleting such an account, your phone number and email will have a cooling-off period of around 7 days. Official rules say you can use the same phone number, email, and identity information to register a new account or link them to an existing one. During the cooling-off period, the information cannot be reused immediately, so plan to wait about a week.
Situation B: Account without identity verification – Once the unverified account is officially closed, the phone number and email become available for new registration right away. This is the easiest path.
Situation C: Verified account but you want to keep it functional – Completed identity verification cannot be removed. If you only need to stop using the account temporarily, choose "Freeze Account" instead of deletion. Later, you can unfreeze it through security verification and continue using it.
Step 2: Perform the Account Deletion
Find the official account closure option and complete all required steps:
Where to find it: In the app or website, go to "Account & Security" and look for "Close Account" or "Delete Account".
The process
Empty your assets: This is a mandatory requirement. You must withdraw all digital assets, cancel all open orders, redeem any financial products, and close all leveraged positions.
Submit the request: Go to [My] – [Account & Security] – [Account Management] – [Close Account] and submit the deletion request.
Identity Verification: Follow the on-screen prompts to complete multiple verifications like password, SMS, Google Authenticator, or facial recognition.
Completion confirmation: You will receive a closure notification from the platform.
Handling Identity Occupation Issues
If you find your identity information is already in use by another account, do not try to register again with a different identity. The correct way: during OKX's "Identity Verification" process, when the system shows "This ID has been verified," click "View verified account" and use facial recognition to locate the old account. Then you can transfer the phone number/email off that old account.
How to Check If Deletion Was Successful
After submitting the request, take a screenshot of the application number. Once the cooling-off period ends, try registering again with your original phone number or email. If you see "This information is already in use," the cooling-off period hasn't ended yet—wait a few more days and try again.
Important Notes After Re-registration
After re-registering, use a new network environment and device if possible to avoid the risk control system linking you to the old account. When you first log into the new account, check the Assets page for any leftover history and make sure the API management list is empty. If your only goal is to remove the identity information from the old account to use on another one, closing the account is the only way.
