When Japanese users register on OKX, they should select "Japan" as the "Country/Region" and the "International Dial Code" will be automatically matched as "+81". This choice affects whether subsequent KYC verification can be passed, and must be consistent with your actual place of residence and the identity documents you submit.

Prerequisites: Information to Confirm Before Registration

Before starting registration, confirm the authenticity and consistency of the following information:

  • Actual place of residence: You are currently living in Japan on a long-term basis.

  • Identity documents: Japanese passport, Japanese driver's license, or Japanese residence certificate (juminhyo) (must include name, address, date of birth, and photo).

  • Proof of address: Utility bills (electricity, water, gas), bank statements, or credit card statements from the last three months. The document must be in your name and the address must match the one on your residence certificate.

  • Mobile phone number: A local Japanese mobile number (dial code +81), used to receive SMS verification codes.

It is prohibited to register with false information. Your address and documents must match your actual permanent residence; otherwise, your account may be frozen and assets may become inaccessible.

Steps

Step 1: Select country/region of residence

  1. Open the OKX official website or app, click [Sign up/Log in] - [Sign up now].

  2. On the registration page, in the "Country/Region of residence" dropdown menu, search for and select "Japan".

  3. Verification: The page shows the country/region as "Japan", and the KYC process subsequently requires documents that meet Japanese regional requirements.

Step 2: Select international dial code and bind mobile number

  1. To the left of the "Mobile number" input field, click the international dial code dropdown list. The system usually matches the dial code automatically based on the selected country of residence. If not auto-matched, search for and select "+81" (Japan) in the list.

  2. In the mobile number input box, enter the part of the mobile number after the dial code (do not enter the dial code again).

  3. Click [Get verification code], enter the 6-digit verification code you receive via SMS, and complete phone binding.

  4. Verification: The mobile number is successfully bound and the status shows as "Verified".

Step 3: Complete identity verification (KYC)

Unverified accounts cannot trade, deposit, withdraw, or transfer funds.

  1. After logging in, go to [User Center] - [Identity Verification].

  2. Upload a government-issued photo ID such as a Japanese passport, Japanese driver's license, or Japanese residence certificate as prompted. Ensure the document photo is clear, unobstructed, and shows all four corners.

  3. Take a photo of yourself holding the document as required, ensuring your face and the document details are clearly visible.

  4. Upload your proof of address, ensuring the address matches the information on your ID.

  5. Verification: The verification page shows "Under review" or "Verified". Usually takes 1-3 business days. If materials are blurry or information is inconsistent, the review may fail.

Common Failure Reasons and Risk Reminders

  • Common failure reason: Inconsistent information leads to audit failure. Selecting "Japan" as your residence during registration but submitting identity documents from another country, or providing proof of address whose content does not match the information you entered, will cause KYC review to fail.

  • Regional and functional restrictions: Japan has strict regulations. After registering with Japan selected, you may not be able to use high-leverage contracts or certain derivative products. Specific availability is subject to what is displayed in the OKX app.

  • Compliance risk: The country/region setting must match the user's actual permanent residence. Using a fictitious address or someone else's identity information may lead to account freezing, asset confiscation, and even legal risks.

How to Confirm You Have Completed It Correctly

Log in to OKX and go to [User Center] - [Security Settings]. Check the status of the following two items:

  • Country/Region of residence: Displayed as "Japan"

  • Mobile number: Displays the dial code "+81" and is verified

If both pieces of information are correct, it means the country/region and dial code were filled in correctly during registration, and you can continue to complete KYC verification. Once verified, your account can be used normally.
