Should Brazilian Users Choose Mobile Number or Email to Open an OKX Account?
Brazilian users must bind both a mobile number and an email. OKX's registration process itself requires both to be bound – there is no "choose one" option. The only difference is which one you use first to complete registration and which one you add later.

Let's break it down.
1. First, understand the platform's actual requirement
Many users assume they can choose one or the other during sign-up. In reality, OKX's rule is: both a mobile number and an email must be bound during registration. Whether on the app or the web, the flow is: first enter your email and verify it, then bind your mobile number and verify it. Both steps must be completed before registration is successful. In other words, you will end up using both anyway.
2. Since both have to be bound, which one should you start with?
Though you'll eventually bind both, the first entry point affects your experience in the first few minutes.
Scenario A: Start with email (recommended)
- What to do: Select email registration on the sign-up page and enter your email address.
- How to do it: We recommend using an international email like Gmail or Outlook; QQ Mail and 163 Mail are also supported. After entering the email, get the verification code and set your login password.
- What happens next: Once the email is verified, the system will guide you to bind your mobile number. At this step, choose "Brazil" (+55), enter your 9-digit Brazilian mobile number (remove the leading 0), and receive the SMS verification code to complete the binding.
Scenario B: Start with mobile number
- What to do: Select mobile number registration, enter your Brazilian mobile number (+55, 9 digits).
- How to do it: After entering the number, get the SMS verification code and set your password.
- What happens next: The system will then ask you to bind an email. Enter your email address and receive the email verification code to complete the binding.
Both paths lead to the same finish line: a fully bound email and mobile number.
We recommend Scenario A (start with email) because receiving an email verification code tends to be more stable than an international SMS, especially when Brazilian carrier signals are unstable.
3. How to tell you're done
In your account security settings page, you should eventually see:
- Email: Verified
- Mobile number: Verified (+55 9xxxxxxxx)
If only one is bound, the registration process is incomplete and some features may be restricted.
Prerequisites
- An email address that can receive mail normally (double-check for typos).
- Your Brazilian mobile number must be able to receive SMS (for the one-time verification during binding).
- The mobile number must be 9 digits long, starting with 8 or 9. Do not add area code, spaces, or dashes.
Common reasons for failure
- Mobile number not receiving SMS: Check if your phone has a signal and whether SMS blocking is enabled. Make sure you entered a 9-digit number (not an 11-digit number with the extra 0 or area code).
- Email not receiving verification code: Check your spam folder. Gmail or Outlook may occasionally experience a delay; wait 1–2 minutes and request a new code.
- Using a virtual number or SMS forwarding service: These numbers often cannot receive verification codes or may later trigger risk controls. We strongly recommend using your own real, regularly used number.
Risk reminders
- KYC consistency: During registration, the country selection for your mobile number is Brazil (+55). When you later submit identity documents and residence information for KYC, they must match that country. If you use someone else's documents or mismatched information, your account review will be stuck.
- Security benefit of dual binding: Precisely because both email and mobile are bound, you can use one to recover your account if something goes wrong with the other. Do not skip either step just to save a little effort.

Confirmation criteria
After finishing the registration flow, try logging in once with Email + Password, then again with Mobile Number + Password. If both work, both entry points are active and your basic account security setup is complete.
Next step: Immediately bind Google Authenticator – this is an even more important layer of protection than your mobile number and email. Then, complete KYC identity verification as soon as possible; only after approval can you trade and withdraw funds.
