How to Choose Your Country of Residence on the OKX Registration Page

Simply select the country/region where you actually live and hold valid identification — this choice determines which fiat currencies you can use for deposits and withdrawals, which payment methods are supported, and it is extremely difficult to change after registration. Mainland China users should select "China" and complete KYC using their national ID card.

1. Why Choosing the Correct Country of Residence Matters

First, understand what happens if you choose wrong:

• The country of residence determines the fiat trading channels and payment methods available to you; different regions support different fiat currencies.
• It directly affects KYC verification requirements — selecting China means using your ID card, while selecting Germany may require proof of address.
• Once the registration region is confirmed, it cannot be changed at will. Although you can theoretically contact customer support to request a change, the process is complicated and success is not guaranteed.

Understanding that a wrong region choice can lead to limited account features, unavailable fiat channels, or even failure to complete KYC is the baseline.

OKX does not provide services to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China. Since May 2024, it has ceased virtual asset trading operations in Hong Kong. Users in Hong Kong who select "Hong Kong, China" will be blocked by the system.

2. How Should Mainland China Users Choose?

Based on your actual situation, make the appropriate selection on the registration page:

Scenario A: You are in Mainland China and hold a Chinese ID card

• Choose China for Country/Region.
• Complete KYC verification using your Mainland China ID card.
• Fiat deposits and withdrawals typically only support CNY (via C2C/P2P).

Scenario B: You are in Hong Kong or actually reside in Hong Kong

• Do not select "Hong Kong, China" — OKX does not offer services to Hong Kong, and selecting this region will prompt "Product Unavailable."
• If you still wish to register, some users have reported that they can select "China" and use a mainland ID card to complete KYC. However, please note: This practice carries compliance risks, and the account may be restricted in the future.

After making your selection, confirm that the region you chose matches your identification documents, and that the page does not display "Region not supported." If you see a message "OKX exchange products currently do not support your region," it means the region you selected is indeed unavailable. Choose a compliant alternative, otherwise you cannot continue registration.

3. What to Do After Selecting Your Country

After confirming your selection, continue with the registration process:

1. Tick "Agree to Terms of Service" and click Next.
2. Continue by filling in your mobile number, email, and password, then complete the verification code.
3. After successful registration, complete KYC identity verification as soon as possible. The identification documents used for verification must match the registered region (China uses an ID card).

Once KYC approval is passed and the account status shows "Verified," the process is complete.

Common reasons for registration failure:

• Selecting a restricted region such as "Hong Kong, China" – the system blocks registration directly.
• Mismatch between region and KYC documents – for example, selecting Germany but uploading a Chinese ID card will cause verification failure.
• Attempting to change the region after registration – you only have 3 chances to change your country of residence, and you may be asked to provide proof of address.

• The region selection cannot be changed at will. Once selected and KYC is completed, it is essentially locked. If you later move to another country, the process of changing the registered region is very cumbersome.
• Feature differences between regions are significant. For example, the Germany region only supports EUR (SEPA) and may not have P2P functionality. Understand the fiat support for your chosen region before making a selection.
• Do not use false information to circumvent restrictions. Registering with a false region and non-matching documents may trigger platform risk control measures, leading to account freezing or withdrawal restrictions.

Correct selection confirmation: On the registration page, verify that the "Country/Region" dropdown displays the region where you actually reside and for which you can provide corresponding identification documents. If KYC is approved, the region matches your documents correctly. If rejected due to region issues, you can only cancel the account and re-register.
