Whether you can fill in an OKX invitation code after registration depends on which product you are using. Strictly speaking, the official referral code for the exchange cannot be added once registration is complete, but the OKX Web3 Wallet invitation code can be bound before you make a trade.

Step 1: Identify what kind of invitation code you have
OKX currently has two completely separate invitation systems, each with different rules.
Case A: Main exchange invitation code (used for spot/contract trading fee rebates). Enter it in the "Invitation code (optional)" field when signing up. You cannot fill in or change the code after registration. OKX clearly states that the referral relationship is confirmed only through the invitation code, and once the account is created, the code cannot be added or modified.
Case B: OKX Web3 Wallet invitation code. Used for fee rebates on on-chain transactions (DEX swaps, etc.) and can be bound before trading. Go to the DEX invitation management center, enter the code, and sign to bind. After binding, new wallets added on that device will automatically use the invitation code.
Common reason for failure: Many people don't realize these two codes are not interchangeable. Trying to bind an exchange referral code on a Web3 page, or vice versa, will simply cause the system not to recognize it.
Step 2: Can you fix it if you missed the code on the main exchange?
Basically no. The official rule is "the invitation code must be filled in before creating the account."
Some articles elsewhere claim a special link can add the code later, but this contradicts OKX's official statement. The safest approach is to check the latest announcement on official channels. The clearest solution is to enter the invitation code directly when registering—much easier than trying to fix things later.

Step 3: If you must "add" a code, the only way is to delete your account and start over
If you confirm the main exchange invitation code was left empty and you care a lot about the fee discount, the only legitimate path is to close your original account, wait 30 days, then re-register with the same identity. Before closing, you must withdraw or transfer all assets and complete 2FA verification. After closure, the account data is permanently deleted, and you cannot sign up again for 30 days.
Risk reminder: Do not trust any third-party service that claims it can "add the invitation code in the backend." The invitation code binding is system-enforced, and even official customer support cannot bypass the rules. Those "paid code fill-in" services are almost always scams or attempts to steal your account.
How to verify it worked: After creating a main exchange account, go to the "Invite friends" page and check if there is an inviter's information below "My invitation code." After binding a Web3 Wallet code, go to the DEX invitation management center and confirm the bound code is displayed.
Next step: If you are a Web3 Wallet user, make sure the code is bound before trading—the fee discount takes effect in real time. If you are a main exchange user who really missed the code, do some math: whether the estimated trading fees for the next year multiplied by the rebate percentage outweighs the time and effort of closing the account and waiting 30 days. If you only trade small amounts, it's not worth the trouble.
