Can OKX KYC Verification Be Canceled?
Once KYC verification is approved, it cannot be directly canceled or removed. Your verified identity information is permanently stored in the OKX system and cannot be manually deleted or replaced. The only way to erase your identity data is to close your account, which is irreversible – the account and all associated data will be permanently deleted.
Step 1: Confirm whether your account has passed KYC
Before considering any cancellation, check your current verification status.
Open the OKX App, go to [User Center] - [Identity Verification]
View your current level status:
Unverified: You haven't submitted KYC yet, no need to cancel.
Under Review: Your application is still being processed; you can try contacting customer support to withdraw the application.
Verified (Lv.1/Lv.2/Lv.3): Verification has been completed and cannot be directly undone.
When is this step complete? Once you've confirmed whether your account is "Verified" or in another state.
Step 2: Understand why verification cannot be directly removed
OKX officially states that once a user completes identity verification, the identity information is stored permanently and cannot be removed.
The reason is regulatory compliance – Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) regulations require exchanges to archive user identity information for compliance reviews by regulatory authorities. The identity information of a verified account cannot be changed; this is part of the platform's rules.
When is this step complete? When you understand that "cannot be canceled" is a platform rule, not a mistake.
Step 3: Check if any "special circumstances" allow removal
In very rare cases, OKX may remove a user's identity verification, but only if the user can provide compelling evidence that their identity has been stolen or compromised. This situation is extremely uncommon and generally does not apply to ordinary users.
When is this step complete? Confirm whether you fall into the "identity stolen" scenario. If not, proceed directly to the next step.
Step 4: The only viable path – Account closure
If you truly need to erase your identity information, the only way is to close your OKX account. After account closure, your identity information will be removed from the system.
Before closing, you must complete these preparations:
Clear all assets: Withdraw or transfer out all digital currencies and fiat balances, ensuring the balance is zero.
Close all positions: Close all leveraged positions, futures positions, redeem any unmatured investment products, and cancel all open orders.
Unbind settings: Unlink your phone number, email, Google Authenticator, etc., and delete API keys.
Account closure steps:
Go to [My] - [Account & Security] - [Account Closure]
Read the "Account Closure Notice", check the box to confirm, and enter your login password.
Complete SMS/email verification code verification.
After submitting, there is a 7-day cooling-off period during which you can withdraw the request at any time.
Once the cooling-off period ends, the account is officially closed and identity information is erased.
When is this step complete? Assets emptied, positions closed, closure request submitted.
Step 5: Understand the consequences of account closure
Account closure is irreversible; confirm the following consequences before submitting:
The account and all data will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
The previously verified identity information will be erased.
The same phone number/email will need to wait a certain period (7 days after a verified account is closed) before it can be used to register a new account.
The same identification document number cannot be used to register a new account again – the platform has a strong association identification mechanism for the same document number.
When is this step complete? When you clearly understand all consequences of closure and accept them.
Frequently Asked Questions
I'm already verified, can I switch to a different ID and re-verify? No. Verified identity information cannot be changed. Once identity verification is successfully approved, it cannot be replaced.
Does canceling "Accredited Investor" status count as canceling KYC? No. That is an opt-out for accredited investors in Singapore and is completely separate from basic KYC verification.
Risk Reminders
"Resetting KYC" can only be achieved by closing your account: Currently there is no option to "remove KYC without closing the account."
After closure, re-registration requires entirely new identity information: The same ID number cannot be used again, and the device ID and IP range associated with the old account may be flagged by the risk control system.
Confirm your verification status. If your account is verified and you wish to remove it, the only path is to close your account – first empty all assets, close all positions, then go to [Account & Security] - [Account Closure] to submit the request. There is a 7-day cooling-off period after submission during which you can cancel.
