Before using your Hong Kong ID for OKX KYC verification, it's important to know that under Hong Kong local regulations, OKX is currently unable to provide services in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. OKX ceased virtual asset trading services in Hong Kong from May 2024. If you currently reside in Hong Kong, you will not be able to trade on OKX. If you hold a Hong Kong ID but live outside Hong Kong, you can use OKX normally.

Prerequisites

Before starting, confirm two things:

  1. You do not currently reside in Hong Kong. OKX cannot provide services in Hong Kong. If you live in Hong Kong, you cannot complete verification even with a Hong Kong ID card.

  2. Your Hong Kong ID is valid. According to OKX's verification standards, you must provide a valid Hong Kong permanent identity card or Smart ID card.

Step 1: Register an Account and Confirm Identity Type

What to do: Register through the OKX website or app, and select the identity type that matches your actual situation.

How to do it:

  1. Open the OKX website or app, and click [Sign Up].

  2. Register using an email or phone number. If using a Hong Kong mobile number, use the +852 number.

  3. After successful registration, go to [Profile] - [Identity Verification], and select your identity type based on your actual situation.

    • If you hold a Hong Kong ID and live outside Hong Kong, in the [Country/Region of Residence] field, select the country/region where you actually live (do not select Hong Kong), then select the identity type "Hong Kong resident".

When is it done: Successfully registered account and entered the identity verification page.

Step 2: Upload Your Hong Kong ID Photos

What to do: Upload front and back photos of your Hong Kong ID as instructed, ensuring the document is clear and readable.

How to do it:

  • Document requirements: You must provide front and back photos of a valid Hong Kong permanent identity card or Smart ID card.

  • Photo requirements:

    • Take a photo of the original document; screenshots, reproductions, or photocopies are not accepted.

    • Ensure all four corners are visible, no glare, no obstructions, and the text is clearly legible.

    • Information must match the ID (name, ID number, expiry date, etc.).

  • Note: Home return permits or visa identity documents are not accepted as the primary document for advanced verification.

When is it done: Front and back photos of your Hong Kong ID have been successfully uploaded.

Step 3: Complete Facial Recognition (Liveness Check)

What to do: Follow the on-screen instructions to complete facial recognition and confirm that you are the person operating.

How to do it:

  • Remove glasses, hats, masks, and other obstructions.

  • Perform this step in a well-lit environment, avoiding backlight or shadows on your face.

  • Follow the prompts to complete actions like blinking and shaking your head.

  • Ensure a stable network; it is recommended to use mobile data or a trusted network.

When is it done: Facial recognition has passed and the page advances to the next step.

Step 4: Submit Proof of Address (If Required)

What to do: In some cases, OKX may request additional proof of address documents.

How to do it:

  • Prepare official documents such as utility bills, bank statements, etc., from the last 3 months.

  • The name on the document must match your ID, and the address must match the residential address you provided.

  • Requirements for proof of address may vary by region.

When is it done: The proof of address document has been uploaded and the process enters the review stage.

Step 5: Wait for Review and Check for Results

What to do: After submission, wait for OKX's review team to process.

How to do it:

  • Review typically takes 1-3 business days, though in some cases it may be completed within 10-30 minutes.

  • The review result will be sent via in-app notification or to your registered email/phone number.

  • If rejected, correct the issues according to the prompts and resubmit.

When is it done: You receive a notification that the review is approved, and the identity verification page shows "Verified".

Common Reasons for Failure

  • Living in a restricted region: If you currently live in Hong Kong, the system will prompt that services are unavailable.

  • Unclear ID photos: Blurry, glare, incomplete corners, or using reproductions/screenshots.

  • Information mismatch: The name or ID number you entered differs from the original document.

  • Facial recognition failure: Wearing obstructions, insufficient lighting, or not completing actions as required.

Risk Reminders

  • If you log in with a Hong Kong mobile number and a Hong Kong IP, OKX's system may detect that you are in Hong Kong and restrict account functions.

  • When registering, it is recommended to use a compliant network environment. Frequently switching regions or using a VPN may be flagged as risky behavior by the system, leading to a temporary account freeze.

  • One phone number can only register one OKX account, and it must be the phone number verified with your real identity.

Next steps: Confirm that you are not currently living in Hong Kong and that your Hong Kong ID is valid. Open the OKX app or website, complete the registration, then go to the [Identity Verification] page, upload both sides of your ID, and complete the facial recognition. After submission, watch for the review notification; results typically come within 1-3 business days.
