Buying an IP token on OKX does not mean you have bought the copyright to any specific work. IP is the "fuel" of the Story network, used to pay on-chain fees for registration, licensing, and royalty settlement. Copyright and licensing are a separate layer, obtained through License Tokens, and they do not automatically come to you just because you hold IP tokens.

What role does the IP token play in Story?
IP is the native token of Story, a Layer-1 blockchain. Its uses are focused at the network level: paying gas fees, staking to secure the network, and participating in governance voting. When you buy IP on OKX, you are buying a credential for network usage, not a share of copyright in any song, painting, or dataset.
Story's whitepaper describes the IP token as the medium that "coordinates the flow of all value in the entire peer-to-peer intellectual property system." It enables on-chain transactions to happen, but it does not itself carry rights to any specific IP asset.
Copyright and licensing use a different mechanism
The real "copyright-related assets" on Story are IP Assets and License Tokens.
An IP Asset is a work registered on-chain by a creator. It can be a song, a dataset, code, or any content. Once registered, it exists as an on-chain record proving "who registered what and when."
A License Token is an ERC-721 NFT that represents a specific licensing agreement. When you want to use an IP Asset (for example, using a song in a commercial project or creating derivative works based on it), you need to mint the corresponding License Token. This token encodes the licensing terms: whether commercial use is allowed, whether derivatives are allowed, whether revenue sharing is required, and how much.
These two things are separate. Holding IP tokens only gives you the ability to operate on this network. To obtain a license for a specific work, you need to mint the License Token corresponding to that work. IP tokens do not automatically grant you any rights to any work.
What can you do after buying IP on OKX?
If you buy IP on OKX, its practical use is: withdraw it to a wallet that supports Story, and then use it to pay for on-chain operations. For example, if you want to mint a License Token for a certain IP Asset, or if you want to stake IP to participate in network validation, these operations require spending IP as gas or as a stake.
If you just want to hold IP tokens on OKX and wait for the price to rise, then it is an ordinary crypto asset whose price is determined by market supply and demand. It is not fundamentally different from buying any other token. It will not automatically bring you royalty income just because there are many IP assets registered on the Story network.
How can you earn royalty income?
Royalties are not a function of the IP token, but of IP Assets and License Tokens. When a creator registers an IP Asset on Story and attaches commercial licensing terms, any fees paid or income generated by anyone using that asset (by minting a License Token) will be automatically distributed to rights holders according to on-chain rules.
As an ordinary IP token holder, unless you personally mint a License Token for a specific work and use it according to the terms, or you are the registered rights holder of that IP Asset, you will not receive any share of royalties from any work.
A boundary worth noting
In July 2026, Story was renamed to Data Network, and the IP token was migrated to DATA. The project's focus shifted from "universal IP registration" to "AI training data licensing." This strategic shift shows that Story's original narrative of "putting all creative works on-chain" encountered resistance in practice — major brands and copyright holders were more conservative about open licensing than expected.
If you see the ticker "IP" on OKX, you need to confirm which network and which stage of the token it corresponds to. For the specific rules and exchange path of the token migration, please refer to OKX official announcements and the official documentation of Story/Data Network.
