If the remaining quantity of your iceberg order stops being placed as new orders, the key is to verify whether the remaining quantity is less than the minimum order size allowed for that trading pair.
OKX's iceberg strategy works as follows: the total order quantity is split into multiple "single order" sizes and placed in batches. If market changes or partial fills cause the remaining total to fall below your set "single order size," the system may no longer place that "odd lot," making the strategy appear to have stopped.
1. Understand the System's Minimum Order Size Requirement
Every single order within an iceberg order is essentially a limit order, so it must meet the minimum order quantity requirement for the trading pair.
Step 1: Confirm the minimum order size for the pair
What to do: On the OKX trading page, find the "minimum order quantity" or "minimum order size" information for the relevant pair (usually displayed near the order entry box).
How to do it:
Minimum order sizes vary by coin. For example, based on platform reference information, the minimum quantity increment for Bitcoin perpetual contracts is typically 0.001 BTC.
If the coin's price is very low, such as SHIB, the minimum order size might be 100,000 tokens.
When you're done: You know the minimum number of contracts/units required for a single order of the coin you are trading.
Step 2: Check the relationship between "remaining total" and "single order size"
What to do: Review the total order quantity you originally set, as well as the "single order size" parameter.
How to do it:
In OKX's new iceberg strategy, the actual size of each individual order is not fixed. It is your "single order size" multiplied by a random factor between 0.5 and 1.
Key point: When your remaining unfilled total is smaller than this randomly calculated "single order size," the system can no longer split a new order big enough to meet the minimum order requirement. Therefore, that remaining quantity will no longer appear on the order book—this is what "stops placing orders" means.
When you're done: You have determined whether the "remaining total" is smaller than (or just equal to) the next possible order size that the system can place.
2. Example Breakdown
Suppose you use an iceberg strategy on a trading pair with a minimum order size of 0.001 BTC:
Total order quantity: 1 BTC
Single order size: 0.2 BTC
Process: The system will sequentially place buy orders of about 0.1–0.2 BTC each. The first several orders are fully filled, accumulating 0.95 BTC traded.
Check point: At this moment, the remaining total is 0.05 BTC.
Result: Because you set the "single order size" to 0.2 BTC and the remaining total is only 0.05 BTC, the system cannot assemble a new order that is at or above the minimum order size and also fits the random ratio. These last 0.05 BTC will no longer be placed on the order book.
Prerequisite: You have already launched an iceberg strategy in OKX's "Strategy Trading," and you notice that your orders suddenly disappeared from the order book, but the strategy page still shows "Running" or "Partially Filled."
3. How to Check and Adjust
Step 3: Check the remaining quantity on the strategy details page
What to do: Go to [Strategies] → [Iceberg Order] and click into the specific strategy's details.
How to do it: Look at the "remaining total" or "unfilled quantity" field to see if it has become very small.
When you're done: You have obtained the exact remaining unfilled quantity.
Step 4: Handle the remaining quantity that "cannot be placed"
What to do: Choose a method based on how much is left.
How to do it:
Case A (remaining quantity is tiny, not worth operating): Simply click [Stop Strategy] and manually close or buy the leftover "odd lot" with a market order.
Case B (remaining quantity is still meaningful, trading should continue): Manually modify the iceberg strategy parameters and reduce the "single order size" to a number smaller than the current remaining quantity. For example, if 0.05 BTC remains, change the "single order size" from 0.2 to 0.01. The system will then resume placing new small orders.
When you're done: You have either closed the remaining position or adjusted the parameters so the strategy starts placing orders again.
Risk reminder: Frequently adjusting the "single order size" or "total order quantity" may change the strategy's market impact. Also note that OKX enforces a limit of 500 pending orders per trading pair; iceberg orders count toward this limit.
How to confirm the issue is resolved after these steps?
After adjusting parameters or stopping the strategy, watch the order book—if orders reappear, the problem is solved. If the strategy was stopped, go to "Current Orders" and check that the order status is "Canceled" or "Fully Filled." Verify your asset balance to confirm that funds have been released or the trade has been executed.
