Why Does a Filled OKX Limit Order Still Have a Remaining Quantity?
If your limit order shows "filled" but you still see a remaining quantity, it means the order was only partially filled — the liquidity at that price was enough to take only part of your order, and the rest remains on the order book waiting to be filled.

"Filled" usually means the order has been partially filled, not fully completed. The number you see is just the amount that has been filled; the remaining portion will exist as "unfilled" or "pending".
Prerequisites
- You submitted a limit order (buy or sell) on the OKX trading page.
- You see the order status displayed as "filled" or "partially filled" under [Order Management] or [Open Orders].
- You remember the total order quantity you entered.
Step 1: Check the Order Status Description
Open the OKX App or website, go to [Order Management] → [Open Orders] or [Order History]. Find that order:
- Status field shows "filled": This means the order has been completely or partially filled. If it is a limit order and only partially filled, the status in history may still show "filled" — but next to it, a specific filled quantity will be displayed.
- View filled quantity: On the order details page, compare "order quantity" and "filled quantity". If they are not the same, only part of the order was filled.
Completion standard: Confirm whether "filled quantity" equals "order quantity". If not, it's a partial fill.
Step 2: Determine Where the Remaining Quantity Went
Situation A: Your order is still pending (still in Open Orders)
This is the most common scenario — the remaining portion is still on the order book, waiting to be filled later.
- What to do: Nothing. When the price moves to your limit price, the remainder will continue to fill until fully filled or you cancel it.
- Completion standard: You should see the order status in [Open Orders] as "open" or "partially filled".
Situation B: The remaining portion was canceled by the system
If your order used the IOC (Immediate or Cancel) order type, any unfilled portion is canceled immediately. The filled quantity you see is the final result for that order.
- What to do: Check the order's execution mechanism. If it's IOC, the remainder will not be filled.
- Completion standard: On the order details page, confirm the execution mechanism is IOC, and it shows "partially filled, remainder canceled".
Situation C: Market order partially filled
Market orders can also be partially filled — if the estimated fill price exceeds the trading pair's price limit, the order will partially fill within the limit and the remaining quantity outside the limit will be canceled (Source: OKX Announcement, 2026-06-29).
Completion standard: Confirm your order type is a market order and check whether the filled quantity equals the order quantity.
Step 3: If You Want to Cancel the Remaining Part
- Go to [Open Orders] and find the order.
- Click the [Cancel] button next to the order.
- Confirm cancellation. The filled portion is held normally or credited, and the unfilled portion will no longer participate in matching.
Completion standard: The order status changes to "canceled" or "revoked", and the remaining order is removed.
Common Reasons for Confusion
Mistaking a partially filled market order for a "limit order not fully filled"
Some users encounter a similar situation with market orders. This is due to the platform's optimized market order execution rules: if the estimated fill price exceeds the price limit, the order is partially filled within the limit, and the remaining quantity is automatically canceled (Source: OKX Announcement, 2026-06-29). This "partial fill" leads to seeing a filled quantity less than the order quantity.
Risk Reminders
- Partial fill = partially filled, not an error: The system will not automatically cancel a regular limit order just because the remainder wasn't filled (unless you chose IOC or FOK).
- Fees are calculated on actual filled quantity: Only the portion that is actually filled incurs a fee; the unfilled part is not charged.
- Limit orders do not support partial fills on DEX: If you placed a limit order on OKX DEX (decentralized exchange), the system currently does not support partial fills — if liquidity is insufficient, the entire order will not fill (Source: OKX DEX documentation). How to Confirm the Operation is Complete
Go to [Order Management] → [Open Orders]. If the order has disappeared (fully filled or manually canceled) and in [Order History] the "filled quantity" equals the "order quantity", it means everything has been processed.
If it still appears in [Open Orders], the remaining portion is still waiting to be filled — decide whether to wait or cancel manually, then check your [Assets] page to see if the balance has been updated accordingly.
