Placing a limit order on OKX DEX does not cost network fees, and canceling it is also free. However, the rules at the moment of execution are different from limit orders on centralized exchanges: the fill price will not stop exactly at your set price. The platform will sell at a level slightly higher than your limit price, use the extra amount to cover network fees, and refund the remaining difference to you. If you check the received amount based on the assumption that "what you set is what you get," the numbers will not match.

You Must Enable Smart Account Before Placing Orders
OKX DEX limit orders currently rely on Smart Account for execution. Without enabling Smart Account, you can see the limit order entry but cannot submit orders. You can enable it in the Web3 wallet settings or the trading mode switch page by following the on-screen instructions.
How to Place a Limit Order
App: Open the Web3 wallet → tap DEX → Swap → select Limit at the top. Then choose the network, pay token, and receive token in order, enter the swap amount, set the trigger price, and confirm to submit.
Web: One note from the official help center: limit orders are currently unavailable on the web version and can only be operated in the OKX App. If you cannot find the limit order entry on the web version, it is not an operation issue — just switch to the App.
After submitting a limit order, your asset balance is not immediately deducted. The order simply stays in the "open orders" state. You can switch to Current Orders at the bottom of the DEX → Swap → Limit page, or enter Transaction History in the upper right corner to check the order status.
Canceling Orders: Free Before Execution
Limit orders have a default validity period of 30 days. Before execution, you can cancel them manually at any time. To cancel: go to DEX → Swap → Limit, find the order through Current Orders or Transaction History, tap into the details, and choose cancel. Placing and canceling orders themselves do not charge network fees (except on the Solana network), and canceling does not deduct any assets.
How Much Is Actually Deducted at Execution: The Key to Settlement Verification
This is the part that raises the most questions. When the market price reaches your trigger price, the actual execution logic is as follows:
The fill price may be slightly higher than your limit price. To ensure network fees can be covered within the transaction, the platform executes the sale at a level slightly higher than your set price.
Network fees are deducted directly from the sale proceeds. Fees are denominated in the token you are selling and are not charged to you separately.
Slippage protection mechanism. OKX DEX limit orders have a slippage protection of about 1%. The extra reserved portion ensures the order can be completed amid market price fluctuations. After execution, the remaining tokens in the slippage buffer are refunded to your address.
How to verify the received amount: Open the filled order in transaction history and check the actual fill price and sold amount. Subtract the network fee deduction from the sold amount, and that is the actual amount of the received token you get. If there is a difference from the estimate at the time of placing the order, first check whether it is caused by network fee deduction rather than duplicate orders or cancellations.
Besides Network Fees, There Is Also OKX's UI Service Fee
If you complete a swap through the OKX DEX interface (rather than calling the contract directly), OKX Wallet charges a UI service fee. The rate is divided into three tiers based on the trading pair: 0%, 0.25%, and 0.85%, deducted directly from the tokens involved in the transaction. This fee is settled at the time of execution and is not incurred during the placing or canceling stages.

If Your Order Did Not Fill, Check These Conditions First
The market price was reached but the order did not execute. There are three possible reasons: First, market liquidity is insufficient to complete the swap at your price. OKX DEX does not currently support partial fills, so without enough counterparties the order will not execute. Second, the market price touched your price but did not exceed it, meaning network fees cannot be covered from the execution, so the order will not trigger. Third, the slippage setting is too tight, and the condition is briefly met but quickly disappears during rapid price movements.
Special notes for the Solana network. The rule that "placing and canceling orders are free" does not apply to the Solana network. If you operate on Solana, placing or canceling orders may incur network fees. Please refer to the fee prompt on the wallet confirmation page for details.
ETH cannot be used directly for limit orders. Limit orders currently only support ERC-20 tokens. If you hold native ETH, you need to first convert it to WETH before placing a sell order.
