The demo trading entrance is not on the trading page; it's in the grid menu. It shares the same login account as real trading, but funds, orders, and positions are completely isolated. No matter how much you lose in the virtual account, your real balance stays untouched.
Step 1: Find the demo trading entrance and switch to the virtual environment
What to do: Enter the OKX app or web demo trading mode.
How to do it: App: Open the homepage, tap the grid icon in the top left corner, find [Demo Trading] in the feature list, and tap to enter. Web: Log in to the official website, click the [Trade] dropdown menu at the top, and select [Demo Trading].
Once inside, the top left or top right corner will show "Demo Trading" or "Simulated Trading," meaning you are in a virtual environment and the funds are not real.
Done when: You see the "Demo Trading" label, and the asset page displays a virtual balance instead of real funds.
Step 2: Choose a trading pair and contract type, and start practicing
What to do: In the demo environment, pick the product you want to practice (spot, futures, strategies, etc.) and place your first order.
How to do it: Take the BTCUSDT perpetual contract as an example:
- Click the trading pair selector, switch to [Perpetual] → [USDT-M] → choose BTCUSDT
- On the trading page, select [Buy/Long] or [Sell/Short], enter the price and quantity, then confirm the order
Demo trading supports spot, perpetual contracts, options, strategy trading, and more—basically the same functions as real trading. Initial virtual funds usually include BTC, ETH, USDT and other major coins, typically around 1 BTC + 1 ETH + 5,000 USDT.
Done when: The order is successfully filled, the position appears in the holdings list, and the P&L number moves with simulated prices.
High-risk warning: Demo and real trading share the same login account, but the environments are completely different. If you have both pages open, always check whether you are in "Demo Trading" or have switched back to real mode. Some users forget to switch back after practicing and place orders in the real account with demo-level position sizes, only realizing they lost real money when it is too late.
Common reason for failure: Many people can't find the demo entrance while staying on the spot page. The spot demo entrance is also in the grid menu or under the [Trade] dropdown menu at the top—the same path as the contract demo. You don't need to look for it separately.
Step 3: Reset when you run out of funds, and keep practicing until you get it right
What to do: If you lose all your virtual money or want to start over, just reset the account.
How to do it: App: On the demo page, tap [Total Asset Value] and find the [Reset] button. Web: Click [Asset Management] in the top right corner → [Demo Trading] → [My Assets], then click "..." next to a coin and select [Reset].
Done when: After reset, all positions and pending orders are cleared, and virtual assets are restored to the initial amount. Resetting does not delete trade history; you can still review past operations under [Orders] for reflection.
Risk reminder: You must cancel all pending orders and close all positions before resetting; otherwise, the system will not allow the reset. If you have running strategies or open orders, close or cancel them manually first.
Verification: Place a limit order—you should see the pending order in "Open Orders." Then place a market order—after it fills, a position appears under "Positions." Completing these two actions means you have mastered the basics of demo trading. To switch back to real trading, click [Return to Real Trading] or [Switch to Real Trading] on the page.
