Which Parameters Won't Sync When You Copy an OKX Contract Grid Strategy

You hit "Copy" on the Strategy Marketplace and assume every parameter is carried over exactly—in reality, some parameters are automatically adjusted by the system and won't be fully synced.

Parameters that are definitely synchronized: the strategy's underlying asset, grid range, number of grids, and take-profit/stop-loss levels. Parameters that will not sync include: investment amount, leverage, margin mode, and certain risk control settings.

Prerequisite: Identify Which Type of Strategy You Are Copying

There are two categories of strategies in the Marketplace, with different copying rules:

  • Spot Grid: After copying, parameters are inherited most completely, but the investment amount and asset transfer must be set separately by you.

  • Contract Grid / Martingale: Besides the investment amount, leverage and margin mode are also not synced; your account's current settings are used instead.

First, find the strategy you want to copy in the Marketplace and check whether the detail page displays a "Copyable" or "One-Click Copy" badge. Strategies without this badge do not support direct parameter copying.

Step 1: Execute the Copy and Check the Parameter Popup

What to do: Tap "Copy Strategy" on the Strategy Marketplace to enter the parameter confirmation screen.

How to do it:

  • Open the OKX App → [Trade] → tap the top tab to switch to [Strategy Marketplace].

  • Filter for strategy cards with the "Copyable" badge, then tap into the detail page.

  • Tap the "Copy Strategy" button; a parameter confirmation popup will appear.

When this step is complete: You have reviewed every field in the popup and confirmed the following values:

  • Strategy type (Spot Grid / Contract Grid / Martingale)

  • Trading pair

  • Grid range (lowest price, highest price)

  • Number of grids (arithmetic / geometric mode)

  • Take-profit price, stop-loss price

These are parameters that will sync. If a field in the popup differs from what the original strategy page shows, that parameter will not be synced—the steps below will tell you which fields belong to this category.

Step 2: Check "Investment Amount"—This Will Never Sync

What to do: Confirm the investment amount for the copied strategy.

How to do it: In the parameter confirmation popup or editing screen, locate the "Investment amount" or "Total investment" field.

Result: This field will never copy the original strategy's number. You must enter it manually.

The lead trader may have invested 10,000 USDT, but on your side the field will be empty or show "Please enter"—the system will not auto-fill any value. You have to set it yourself.

When this step is complete: You have manually entered a reasonable investment amount based on your account balance and risk tolerance.

Step 3: Check "Leverage"—Contract Strategies Will Not Sync It

What to do: If you are copying a contract grid or contract martingale strategy, verify the leverage.

How to do it: On the editing screen, find the "Leverage" field and see the value displayed by the system.

Result (from OKX official explanation): When copying contract strategies, the leverage is not synced from the lead trader. The system defaults to the leverage you manually set on the Contract Trading page. If you change the leverage during the strategy copy setup, that change will update your Contract Trading page settings accordingly, but it will not become the lead trader's leverage.

When this step is complete: You have confirmed that the current leverage is your own setting and matches your risk tolerance. If you are unsure about your current leverage, check the Contract Trading page.

Step 4: Check "Margin Mode"—Contract Strategies Will Not Sync It

What to do: Confirm your account's margin mode.

How to do it: On the editing screen or in the Contract Trading settings, check the "Margin mode".

Result: Margin mode is likewise not synced from the lead trader; it uses the default mode you set on the Contract Trading page. If you change the margin mode while copying the strategy, that change will also update your Contract Trading page settings.

When this step is complete: You have confirmed that the current margin mode (Isolated / Cross) is what you want and fits the risk profile of this strategy.

Step 5: Check "Take-Profit / Stop-Loss"—They Might Not Be Fully Synced

What to do: On the copied strategy's editing page, verify the take-profit and stop-loss settings.

How to do it: Find the "Take-profit price" and "Stop-loss price" fields and compare them with the values displayed on the original strategy page.

Result: The strategy parameters themselves (the specific price levels for take-profit and stop-loss) will sync. But note one important point: the lead trader's percentage caps for take-profit and stop-loss may differ from yours—OKX imposes a maximum take-profit ratio of 150% and a maximum stop-loss ratio of 75% for copy users. If the lead trader set a take-profit ratio above 150%, it will be automatically capped by the system when copied to your side.

When this step is complete: You have confirmed that the take-profit and stop-loss values are within your acceptable range and have not been automatically truncated to unreasonable numbers.

Step 6: Complete Fund Transfer Verification Before Starting the Strategy

What to do: After copying, the strategy is set to "Paused" by default; you need to start it manually.

How to do it:

  • On the editing screen, tap "Start Strategy".

  • Enter your trading password.

Extra check before starting (real pitfall): After copying, if funds have not been automatically transferred from your main account to the dedicated strategy sub-account, the strategy will fail to start due to insufficient balance. Go to [Assets] and check that the funds for this strategy are already in place.

When this step is complete: The strategy status changes from "Paused" to "Running", and the first pending order appears correctly.

Common Reasons for Failure

  1. Started the strategy directly after copying without entering an investment amount—the system prompts "Please enter investment amount" and the strategy cannot run. Many people assume the amount is copied over and overlook the need to fill it manually.

  2. Incorrect leverage leads to a position size that differs from expectations—when copying a contract strategy, the leverage is not synced from the lead trader; your account's old leverage setting is used. A strategy originally meant to use 2x leverage may end up running at 5x on your side, making the actual position size very different from expectations.

  3. The "Copyable" badge was not confirmed—not all strategies support one-click copying. If the strategy detail page does not have the "Copyable" badge, tapping the copy button is useless; you need to manually recreate the parameters.

Risk Reminder

  • When you copy a strategy, the fields that do not sync—investment amount, leverage, and margin mode—directly determine your actual risk exposure. The same strategy run with different leverage and investment amounts will have completely different risk and return profiles.

  • After the strategy starts, the invested funds are isolated from your trading account and used exclusively by the strategy. This means the money cannot be simultaneously used for manual trading or other strategies.

How to Verify Your Operation Is Correct

After the strategy starts, do three things:

  1. Open the strategy monitoring panel and check whether the current average entry price matches what the original strategy shows.

  2. Check the price of the first pending order against the latest pending order price of the original strategy. It should be within a reasonable deviation (generally no more than 0.3% is normal).

  3. Go to [Assets] and confirm that funds have been transferred from your main account to the dedicated strategy account.

If all three checks are in order, the copy was successful.

FAQ

Q: Can I change the parameters after copying? Yes. The copied strategy is an independent instance; you can adjust the investment amount, grid range, take-profit/stop-loss, and other parameters. Some parameters (like the "grid range" and "number of grids" in spot grid strategies) can even be modified in real time during operation without stopping the strategy. Changes you make affect only your own strategy and will not retroactively affect the original lead trader's strategy.

Q: If the lead trader modifies their strategy parameters, will my copied strategy automatically follow? It depends. If the Strategy Marketplace supports a "parameter sync" feature, then when the lead trader makes changes, the corresponding parameters of copy users will automatically synchronize. However, investment amount, leverage, and margin mode will still not sync—even if the lead trader changes them, these fields in your strategy will remain unchanged.
