How to Use OKX CeDeFi: Buying On-Chain Tokens and Exit Options

OKX Ce DeFi lets you buy on-chain assets directly with your exchange balance. No withdrawals, no seed phrases, and no manual gas management. But the exit path is different from regular spot trading: the DEX tokens you buy cannot be withdrawn directly. You must sell them back to USDC or USDT first, and only then will the funds return to your trading account.

Create a Passkey Wallet First

Before using CeDeFi for the first time, you need to create a self-custodial wallet inside the OKX App. This wallet is managed by a Passkey (device biometrics or PIN code). There is no seed phrase, and the private key stays on your device.

Here is how to do it: open the OKX App, go to Trade > DEX, tap Activate DEX to trade, and follow the prompts to create your Passkey. Your device needs to support Passkey (iOS 16+ or Android 7+ with Google services enabled).

This wallet is separate from your OKX exchange account. DEX assets are stored in this independent wallet and cannot be transferred directly to or from your trading account.

Buying On-Chain Tokens

After creating the wallet, you can search for tokens directly on the DEX page. The interface shows a risk rating and market data for each token, but OKX clearly states that these assets have not been reviewed by the exchange. You trade at your own risk.

Enter the amount you want to buy, check the transaction details (including fees and estimated amount received), and confirm with your Passkey. The system automatically settles between your exchange balance and the on-chain DEX. You do not need to bridge manually or prepare gas tokens.

Currently supported networks include Solana, Base, and X Layer. However, note that OKX temporarily paused support for BNB Chain because that ecosystem has limited support for AA contracts.

Exit Path: No Withdrawals, Only Selling Back

This is the most important rule to remember about CeDeFi.

The DEX tokens you buy cannot be withdrawn to an external wallet, and they cannot be transferred directly from the DEX wallet back to your OKX trading account. The only way to take money out is to sell the tokens on the DEX page. After selling, the USDC or USDT you receive will automatically return to your OKX trading account.

This means if the token you bought has no liquidity and no buyers, you may be unable to exit. On-chain assets, especially newly issued meme coins, can lose liquidity instantly.

There is also an easy-to-miss restriction: tokens already listed on OKX spot can only be sold on the DEX, not bought. To buy those tokens, you need to go back to the exchange's spot page.

A Few Operational Details

Slippage settings: a fixed slippage (for example, 1%) means the maximum tolerated slippage will not exceed 1%. A dynamic slippage (for example, 4%) means the trade will execute as long as the actual slippage is within 4%. DEX trades on low-liquidity tokens can have very high slippage. Setting it too low may cause the transaction to fail.

Failed transactions are free: if a DEX transaction fails, you do not pay network fees or trading fees.

Orders cannot be cancelled after submission: once an on-chain transaction is submitted, you must wait for block confirmation. If the status shows "In Progress," you cannot stop or cancel it. You can only wait for the result.

Emergency plan for lost devices: if you lose your device or cannot access your Passkey, you can use the wallet release feature to move DEX assets to an external EOA address that you control. Once the transfer is complete, the original CeDeFi trading account will become permanently inaccessible.

Should You Use CeDeFi?

If you just want to use your exchange balance to buy some on-chain small-cap tokens or meme coins, and you do not want to deal with wallets and bridging, CeDeFi is a shorter path. But you need to accept two limits: the tokens you buy cannot be withdrawn and can only be sold back, and exiting DEX assets depends entirely on market liquidity.

If you need to move tokens to your own on-chain wallet or use on-chain DeFi protocols, the CeDeFi wallet does not offer that exit. In that case, using the OKX Web3 wallet or an external wallet like MetaMask is more suitable.
