In the OKX ecosystem, "publishing a trading bot" is not what many people imagine. You cannot upload your own Python scripts or external programs to OKX for it to run and share profits. The OKX Strategy Marketplace is a copy-trading market for platform-native strategies. Lead traders use OKX's built-in strategy tools (spot grid, futures grid, DCA, etc.) to create strategies, set a profit-sharing ratio, and let other users copy them. When profits are made, the lead trader takes a cut. What you can "publish" is the strategy parameters you configure in the OKX interface, not code.

Profit Sharing: Up to 30%, but There Are Conditions
After becoming a lead trader, you set the profit-sharing ratio when creating a strategy, ranging from 0–30%. This ratio cannot be changed after the strategy is created, so you need to think it through from the start.
The calculation is straightforward: when a follower stops copying, if the strategy is profitable, your share equals the profit amount × your set ratio. If the follower exits at a loss, you get nothing. Profit-sharing earnings first go into a separate system account and are transferred to your funding account every Monday at 00:00.
Here is a detail that is easy to overlook: profit sharing happens when the follower stops copying, not on a daily or weekly accrual basis. If a follower keeps copying your strategy without stopping, you cannot receive that portion of the profit share for now, even if the account keeps making money on paper. So a lead trader's actual cash flow depends on follower behavior, not entirely on strategy performance.
OKX's official FAQ also confirms the "maximum 30%" cap and mentions that lead traders can build reputation and gain market exposure through a dedicated profile page. The platform gives extra promotional exposure to strategies that are "sufficiently high-quality with higher stable returns," but there is no publicly quantified standard for this—it is an operational judgment.
Visibility: What Gets Seen in the Strategy Marketplace
After your strategy is published, it appears in the Strategy Marketplace. Followers can see the strategy type, historical performance, profit-sharing ratio, and other information. But there are a few things you should know before publishing.
The key logic of your strategy is not fully transparent to followers. Lead traders can hide key points of their strategy to preserve its competitive edge. This means followers see performance data and a parameter framework, not the complete strategy logic. This is a deliberate platform design choice that benefits lead traders, but it also means follower trust in you is built more on historical data.
Available strategy types are limited to the tools OKX provides. Spot grid, futures grid, DCA (Martingale), and signal strategies are built into the platform. You cannot upload custom indicators or external scripts. Signal strategies do accept TradingView Webhook signals, but that lets users connect their own TradingView alerts to OKX for execution—it does not let you publish an external strategy on OKX for others to copy.
Follower eligibility is related to your strategy type. Some strategies may involve futures trading, and OKX has regional restrictions and account type requirements for derivatives access. If your strategy uses futures grid or high-leverage DCA, the pool of users who can copy it will be smaller than for a pure spot grid strategy.
Shutdown: You Stopping vs. the Platform Stopping Are Different
When you stop your own strategy, the entry point is in the "My Strategies" dashboard. After stopping, the system cancels all pending orders and handles positions at market price (the specific behavior depends on the strategy type), and funds return to your trading account. Followers will stop copying at the same time. If the overall copy period was profitable, you will receive your profit share in the settlement cycle.
When the platform forcefully stops your strategy, it is usually because there is a problem with the underlying trading pair. For example, if a coin is delisted, OKX will announce in advance that the strategy bot will be gradually shut down within a certain time window. In this case, if you are worried about the fees and slippage from automatic shutdown, the official recommendation is to manually stop it in advance. The slippage difference between automatic and manual shutdown depends on market liquidity at the time and has no fixed pattern, but taking action yourself at least gives you a chance to choose the timing.
There is also the case where the strategy product itself is removed from the platform. For example, the Infinity Grid strategy was taken offline by OKX on March 12, 2025. All running strategies were automatically stopped and assets returned to trading accounts. Such adjustments are announced in advance, and you need to decide before the deadline whether to switch to an alternative strategy or simply stop.
Requirements to Become a Lead Trader
OKX's first batch of lead traders was invitation-based. The official self-application condition is described as "meeting three requirements," but the public FAQ only explicitly states one: setting a profit-sharing ratio (0–30%) when creating a strategy. The other two conditions are not itemized in the current official Chinese documentation, so their specific content cannot be confirmed. If you do not qualify for an invitation or application, you can still create and use strategies for trading—you just cannot earn profit sharing as a lead trader.
From a practical standpoint, the more realistic path is: first run strategies with your own money for a period of time, accumulate demonstrable historical performance, and then watch for whether OKX opens an application channel or whether you receive a platform invitation. A strategy with no historical data is unlikely to attract followers even if you get lead trader status.
My Take: Who Is Suited for This
If you already run grid or DCA strategies on OKX with a stable track record and you accept the cash flow characteristic that "profit sharing depends on when followers stop," being a lead trader is an additional income source. The suitable strategy types are spot grid or conservative DCA with transparent parameters and easy-to-understand logic—followers can build trust more easily, and you do not need to explain complex derivatives risks.
If what you expect is a "upload strategy code, platform automatically shares profits" model, OKX does not currently offer that path. You would need to manage API keys yourself and run external programs. All profits are yours, but you also bear all operational responsibility and the lack of follower trust. The trade-off between the two paths is clear: on-platform lead trading gives up control over strategy logic and certainty of profit sharing in exchange for traffic and the leverage of follower funds; external self-operation keeps full control and full profits but lacks the copy-trading scale the platform provides.
If you do not yet have an OKX account, the invitation code field is in the referrer section when registering. Our site's referral code is 24U2795. It is optional and does not affect your use of strategy trading features.
