OKX borrowing limit shows zero most likely due to three factors: account mode, platform-wide limits, or your personal available quota. Check these one by one to pinpoint the problem.

Step 1: Confirm if your current account mode supports borrowing
Borrowing rules differ greatly by account mode. Make sure you understand yours.
Situation A: Isolated Margin Mode — In this mode, borrowing must be manually initiated, and principal and liabilities are separated. If you have outstanding debts (e.g., an unfilled order), your available limit is taken up, showing zero. Check: Go to [Assets] - [Account Mode] and confirm the mode. If in isolated margin, check if any unsettled liabilities are blocking your quota.
Situation B: Cross-Margin Mode — All currencies are converted to USD value and used as unified collateral. The borrowing limit depends on the total account equity in USD, not a single coin. If total equity is below 10,000 USD, borrowing is restricted. Check: Account total equity must exceed 10,000 USD, and you have passed the cross-margin knowledge test.
Situation C: Spot Mode with Auto-Borrowing On — If auto-borrow is enabled in spot mode, the system borrows from the "Simple Earn" pool. If that pool is exhausted for the target coin, you cannot borrow. Check: On the [Simple Earn] page, verify the target coin's pool still has available balance.
Risk Warning: Before switching account mode, the system will check if your assets meet the margin requirements of the new mode. If insufficient, the switch will be rejected. Forcing it could liquidate existing positions.
Step 2: Check Platform-Wide Collateral Loan Cap
Many overlook this. OKX sets a platform-level maximum total borrowing amount for each collateral coin. When the total network loans approach or hit this cap, no one can borrow that coin, even if your personal funds are enough.
How to identify: On the trading page under the [Assets] tab, a yellow or red indicator appears next to the coin name:
Yellow: The coin is near the platform limit, may affect orders
Red: The coin has reached the platform limit, cannot be used as collateral for borrowing
Check: No yellow/red indicator next to your target coin means platform-level quota is still available.
Step 3: Examine Personal Quota and Outstanding Debts
After ruling out platform caps, look at your own borrowing situation.
Available Limit: On the borrowing page, check the "Borrowable Amount". This number is the lowest of three limits: user tier borrowing cap, coin position tier limit, and Simple Earn pool limit. If you've already borrowed near or at that cap, you can't borrow more.
Debt Occupancy: Unrealized losses from contract positions, funding fee deductions, etc., create liabilities that eat into your borrowing limit. If there are outstanding debts, your available quota decreases.
Check: Go to [Order Center] - [Borrow Data] to see current liabilities and remaining limit.
Common Failure Reasons
Simple Earn Pool Depleted: OKX margin borrowing sources come from "Simple Earn" user deposits. If all deposited assets are lent out, the borrowing limit becomes zero.
VIP Tier Too Low: Users at VIP5 and above enjoy exclusive borrowing quotas separate from the Simple Earn leveraged pool. Lower-tier users only rely on the Simple Earn pool.
Repayment "Stuck" Limit: When repaying, if existing liabilities remain but the exclusive borrowing quota unlocks while Simple Earn's remaining quota cannot cover the debt, the repayment fails. This is an easy trap.

After Completing the Checks
Verification: Refresh the borrowing page. See if the "Borrowable Amount" returns to a positive number. If still zero, re-check the three steps above.
Next Steps: If caused by platform cap, wait for others to repay and release quota, or switch to a different coin. If your personal limit is full, repay part of your loan to free up quota, then try again.
